Teixeira to braves: ESPN

.but it was a steep price to pay just to rent a 1b.....

It's not really a rental. He'll definitely be around for 2008 and there will be money available to make a run at him possibly in 2009. The good thing about this move is that it's NOT a rent a player deal and he provides a bat in the middle of the order to soften the blow when Andruw leaves.

Until they get a new owner.... big money deals are a thing of the past for the Braves.

I think this is a very bad move. Scouts that I have talked to said Andrus was gonna be really special because he can really pick it and Salty will be a perennial All-Star. If Harrison was involved, he was considered the next Glavine, so I think bad move.

You went to the WS with Belliard at SS!

1. Belliard has never played for the Yankees

2. The White Sox got career years from Konerko, Crede, Dye, Pyrzinski, and Rowand that year. Not to mention Playoff perfermances that were unheard of for ordinary pitchers Contreras, Vasquez, Garland, and El Duque.

Wow, just wow. All of it.

What the hell are you talking about? I was saying the Braves went to the WS with Belliard and Blauser at SS!

Wrong Belliard. We were talking about Garland, who plays for CWS, and then you bring up Belliard: Ronnie played for them when they went to the WS.

Harrison was involved and Feliz! Feliz can throw is 19 and can throw 103! By the way, breaking news that the Braves have tooken the lead for Octavio DOtel and a deal may be done by this evening.

103? Tooken? Braves making a deal for bullpen pitching? Come on man, you just don't make any sense.

Well I am a Red Sox fan first but have followed the Braves my whole life and do pull for them against all others and I have seen some lame trades over the years.......McGriff and Smoltz seem to be the only two that worked out to their benefit....they usually get burned......I'm still pissed they traded Brett Butler!

Guys its not as though Tex is gone after this year. He's still got another year to help the Braves.

Expect a 3-year deal with Tex before October. They know they won't have Andruw (or his monster salary), Tex wants to play in Atlanta (played college ball at Ga Tech), and they'll need another big bat.

The reports are out there to that effect. I just read the same thing on Fox Sports.

There may be reports, but Schurholtz is not that dumb. You know that. Dotel won't be cheap. Use those assets for a starter. Besides the Braves need a lefty for the pen, and I don't think Mayhay is the answer.

MAhay has actually been pretty good. I sort of agree on Dotel though. I don't see what all the hype is about a guy who is injury prone and has a WHIP over 1.50.

......and two years from now you'll be saying we gave up Salty and Elvis for what?

I don't think you should give up this year, when there is a legit shot to make the playoffs, for the chance that you will be better in the future. Two years from now, you can't project whether that will be the case, and you can't project whether those guys will develop as expected. Two years is plenty of time to make more moves, too.

They needed a big bat to compete, and they got it. The price was high but obviously something they thought they could afford. I think it was a good move, and it is nice to see the franchise seeking ways to get better again rather than just slashing payroll.
