Tennessee’s Bowl Projections - 11/14/22

BVS is alive and well for you. You looked at 6 selections and take the worse case with USC. The only one that does not have us in the CFP and you choose to talk about that particular selection.

It was intended to be a response to the above poster who said "lol at Cotton Bowl", but you are correct about the BVS. And yes, SI probably did something to give people something to talk about, and I took the bait.

When I see us matched against K. State, it literally sends shivers down my spine. Was at that beat down. I've never been so damned cold in my life. Said I'd never go back. I'd rather see us playing a higher profile game/opponent to be honest.

We're still talking football, right?

Actually, if Tennessee does not make the CFP; we would be in the Cotton Bowl as the 1st team not taken by the committee. The Cotton Bowl participants are actually selected by the playoff committee.

Bowl Selection Process
Very good find … this is so confusing. It says one thing then seems to say another 🤔 … I haven’t followed the sections closely in past years. What happened to the long standing SEC runner up and the Sugar Bowl that we’ve talked about so much ? Am I reading they could force us into a certain bowl just because they’re the CFP “committee” ? I don’t get it - but thanks for posting, I’ll dig into this more later …

Not to mention playing Georgia in the Peach Bowl would hardly qualify as playing them on a neutral field. For all practical purposes, it would be tantamount to another home game for UGA.
Not really, because ticket distribution would be very different from GA home game. There would be a blanket of orange in that stadium.

I think the Cotton Bowl is played at Jerry World now.

The Sugar Bowl would be better;)

Yep, and that my take from the FAQ section. We would be the next highest-ranked SEC team not in the four-team playoff and we would go to Sugar Bowl.

Which SEC Team qualifies for the CFP?
The winner of the SEC Championship Game automatically qualifies for a spot in the Sugar Bowl if that team is not selected to participate in the four-team playoff. If the SEC Champion is selected to participate in the four-team playoff it will play in the Peach Bowl or Fiesta Bowl. The next highest-ranked SEC team not in the four-team playoff goes to the Sugar Bowl.

Yep. That would be a dream scenario. I don't want UGA in a 1 vs 4 matchup. I'd rather get 'em when it's for the whole ball of wax....assuming we can get by OSU. They've got the talent to do what UGA did so it certainly won't be a walk in the park.
Was there too
Had literal ice in my pants and stuck to the bleachers
Crappy stadium.

Wrong tickets are evenly distributed to both schools. No real advantage, would be loud on both teams. GBO

Thank you and a previous poster for correcting my erroneous memory on this point. By geographical criteria, the Peach Bowl would, indeed, be tantamount to a home game for Georgia but, in terms of fan representation, it would not. Duly noted and thanks again.

Bowl Selection Process

Not true - read the entire page. The highest ranked SEC team not in the CFP goes to the Sugar Bowl. After the Sugar Bowl comes the Cotton. As long as we win out, we will either be the 2nd SEC team in the playoffs or ranked #5 heading to New Orleans.

It’s such a bizarre selection process but from my understanding this is how they will do it.

Pick 1: CFP Committee selects the 4 Semifinalists for the CFP.
Pick 2: CFP selects the highest ranking AA, C-USA, MAC, Mountain West, Sunbelt for 1 spot in the Cotton Bowl. 2nd spot TBD.
Pick 3: Rose Bowl Committee selects the highest ranked non-CFP teams from the PAC and B1G.
Pick 4: Orange Bowl Committee selects the highest ranked non-CFP teams from the ACC and SEC/B1G/Notre Dame.
Pick 5: Sugar Bowl Committee selects the highest ranked non-CFP teams from Big 12 and SEC.
Pick 6: CFP Committee fills the final Cotton Bowl slot with the highest ranked power 5 team not yet selected.
