The wound Vanderbilt coach James Franklin intended to leave open has scabbed over.

Last year Franklin said a tape of Tennessee coach Derek Dooley’s post-game speech to his players after the Vols’ 27-21 overtime win in Knoxville would lead to plenty of talk prior to the rematch Saturday night in Nashville.

“We’ll talk about it next year — a lot,” Franklin said in 2011. “We’ll talk about it as much as you guys want to talk about it.”

At his Monday press conference, a more reserved Franklin veered the other direction.

“I’ve matured dramatically since that day,” Franklin said. “As you guys know, we have one of the best hospitals in the United States. So that wound has healed.

“Our focus is on Vanderbilt and getting better. … If we need any other types of motivation and things like that, then our focus isn’t where it needs to be.”

Franklin said he would not address or show his Commodores (6-4, 4-3 SEC) any of Dooley’s speech in which he said: “The last thing I'm going to remind you … is that the one thing Tennessee always does is kick the (expletive) out of Vandy.”

That served as the lone SEC win for Dooley and the Vols (4-6, 0-6) in the last two seasons.

I'm gonna call BS on that. That tape is being played... and talked about... and used to motivate. Like they need it.

Mark my words, we will beat vandy

We've said this every week, since the NcState game, it hasn't really worked in any of the SEC games. So maybe if we're skeptical and doubting like we were against NcState, maybe we will be surprised for a change.

Vandy has a chance to take us to the woodshed this year, and if that happens, I think that some Mattress Direct stores may spontaneously catch fire Saturday.

I hope they do play it again, and it will make it even worse when we beat them again. Hope Dooley remains perfect against at least one team...just one more time for ole times' sake.

Nope, we run for over 200 yds, our OL will dominate and we will control clock and game. Vandy only put up 19 on Mizzou.
My prediction. UT 27. Candy 17.

The only SEC team we have beaten in two years. How pathetic is that? Vandy should be favored by at least 10 points.

Sorry, but I disagree. We play great for a half & then shutdown for whatever reason & lose to Vandy by 10pts. All they have to do is take the lead & TN will go in a shell. But then again, TN is on the road so who knows what will happen? Hope it doesn't come down to a 38 yard FG try for us to win it cause Palardy won't make it.
