Red, white and blue?
What happened to black and gold?
When Vanderbilt wore red, white and blue uniforms during their College World Series game in Omaha, Neb., on Monday night, many fans wondered what happened to the traditional black, gold and white uniforms.
After all, black and gold are the university's official colors.
The answer lies with Vanderbilt coach Tim Corbin.
"My dad was someone who made sure that I understood what the American flag and what our country meant, and what servicemen meant to our country because my dad was one of them," Corbin said.
"I've just brought that concept into our program. We practice how to stand for a national anthem. We watch footage of soldiers and stories because, to be quite honest with you, we don't have what we have unless certain people go out and allow us to do so."
Vanderbilt has worn its red, white and blue "military appreciation" uniforms for various games over the past several seasons and donned them for Sunday games this season.
