Tennessee at Missouri Game 3 Thread - 12:30PM - SECN

Thx 67! Decided to watch on the big screen today...now back to listen to the audio stream for the post game...

There is not one redeeming quality about Tennessee Baseball over the last 7 days. Coming off a series win over Vandy, the Vols struggled to beat EKU, got shut out by Alabama State and then get swept by the worst, um second worst team in the SEC.

There is nothing good to say. At all.

Mizzou: 2nd SEC sweep in history, lost six straight before the Vols showed up. Just what the doctor ordered for the Tigers. Sometimes I get the idea that if Serrano ran down that pint-sized sport psychologist in 'The Natural', he'd turn down the commission because it would be a waste of his time.

Way to build momentum off that Vandy series win guys.

Serrano is toast. You simply can't get swept by Mizzou.

Bergeron was awful.

We have not improved in the areas he was responsible for yet he is being praised for the job he is doing at Long Beach State. How have we improved with the hire of a local hero? Greg was simply the scapegoat for a terrible year. Who is to blame this year?

We haven't improved offensively? Have you watched a game all year? We have 5 guys hitting well over .300. Three with 48-54 RBI's. We had another kid having the year of his career before injury. Leftridge is hitting a lot better than last year as well. We are better at everything Bergeron did.

I've watched and/or listened to most of the games. We are still running the bases poorly which was what people griped about all last year and blamed Bergeron. We are also still bunting when we should probably swing away. Players tend to get better as they get older, and these inflated numbers are partly due to facing bad pitching. Are we competitive in the league? No! Back to my original post: Bergeron made the right choice whether he is terrible or great. The current staff is going down with the ship.

Gotta have truly elite pitching to even compete in the sec. Every sec team is going to lose some of their best recruits to the draft; Florida, Vandy, South Carolina, LSU and Ole Miss all did this last spring. You have to get the middle round prospects to stay, get coaching and a college degree, and become elite.

Neither Raby nor Wright were the best pitchers in their respective Vandy classes.

Raby, who is now starting on Sunday, was at best the third highest pitcher in his VU class. Chandler Day, who many thought was the guy who would start first, has been awful. Everett has been injured for almost the entire year.

Kyle Wright was the best pitcher in Huntsville, the first kid to commit in his recruiting class, and not exactly a recruiting hotbed. He was developed into a first round prospect. He sure wasn't one out of high school.

I don't know that I've seen more elite pitching in the sec than there is this year. It truly is like AA ball. There are guys starting for teams in the bottom half of this league who will pitch in the majors, it is a crazy elite pitching conference.

Yeah I know our pitching is not good enough. That's been hashed out all year. Our offense is so much better with Bergeron gone though.

Fielding percentage for the last 2 years is .970.
Pickoffs are at 13 a piece right now. Unless UT goes on a huge spree of getting picked off, the offense is leaps and bounds better, fielding is the same, and base running is going to finish very similar or the same. I will take this year's offense 10/10 times.

Brodie Leftridge is hitting .320 in SEC games after going .219 overall last year.

Jeff Moberg was batting .415 before getting injured, he hit .167 in 2015 while being called upon to bunt everytime up.

Lance is hitting is hitting .342 for the season, .296 in SEC play after going .173 last season.

JRog is going .291 after .278 the year before.

VJax and Senzel have better numbers too.

The TEAM BA is .294 (5th) in 2016, .262 (12th) in 2015

We've scored 289 runs so far this year with 10 games to go, last year we were dead last with 229.

We are currently 5th in the league with 440 hits compared to 14th place with 423.

We're 8th with 251 RBI so far...last year we are 14th with 203 RBI.

We are second in the league with 70 stolen bases compared to 9th with 57.

Last year we were 14th in the league in fielding double plays (35), this year we are first with 45 (going into the weekend).

Overall we have the same fld% at .970, but in SEC ball we are sitting at .977.

We were obviously 1st in sac bunts last year and last in sac flies...this year we are 10th in sac bunts and tied with Vanderbilt at #1 for sac flies.

The only spots where we haven't improved is slugging and homers.

I think it's fair to criticize the program, but Slim and Thomas have done more with less. The pitching has been the issue this season...

What choice? He was asked to get out......about 3 years too late.

And to add to Rapp's post, UT does not have a single pitcher who would be a weekend guy for ANY other team in the SEC.

Never should never have been here to start with. He is the main reason this thing failed. Screw him

I can't believe there are actually people defending anyone on this coaching staff, if this was football everyone would of wanted the whole staff gone last year. There is no excuse for this team to be this bad at this point in Serrano tenure here, and I don't care that we are in the toughest conference, so dont give me that crap, cause I Will just point to football and say .. Now what's your excuse?. This team, and kids( and I know they are busting their butts off) but they haven't got better either, poor coaching decisions, on the bases, not pulling people when they need pulled. It all adds up to a really bad team, and we are at the bottom of the SEC, Serrano must go.. I thought he would work out, wanted him to work out.. But its not, plain and simple.

Exactly!

The Vols are 46-93 in the SEC since the beginning of the 2012. No head coach has had that poor of a record the first five years of his tenure in the history of the league. There have been others who were bad from the get go like Raleigh at UT or Robert Sapp at Georgia but they never made it this long.
