Tennessee Basketball 2010-2020

That is what UT is shooting for. Although Highly unlikely.

UT had a good season. 3rd in the SEC East. 3rd SEC overall. Lite 8. That's respectable. Number 1 I do not think Pearl will be able to land a GREAT job, but he will get a few better offers than UT. So him being at UT that long is very, very unlikely in itself. Besides that, UT winning a championship is very unlikely. And that's not rival talk that's just the way it is.

Edit: Screw it, a good number of us who MHF is still inexplicably calling out had a better track record than MHF this year, and I really don't even feel like trying to prove it. Everyone else witnessed it, that should be enough.

Meeks,
Pearl is already the best coach in TN basketball history. If you are not aware that TN has the money and facilities to compete with anyone in the country, you can do some more research. The man just had a new practice facility built for him. He makes over 2 million a year. His team had the 4th highest attendance in CBB.

What program is such a better job that Bruce will take it? There have always been idiots who never came out and said it but who insinuate that because Bruce is Jewish he will never be comfortable in Knoxville. Well they are idiots. Pearl is now married to a Tennessee girl and seems very happy here. He will not leave for BC, he does not want to head back to Boston. The weather is great here, everything about this area has grown on him.

He is a hero here.

The only programs that are clearly better than UT will not be able to hire away Bruce based on money. What will they offer then? The ability to come somewhere like UK where you get fired if you struggle some after winning a National Championship? A great history that just means that Final Fours will not mean as much to them when he gets them? Bruce Pearl has a chance to not even be the Pitino of TN basketball, he will be our Rupp. Better situation than Izzo because he can sell a place that is much more attractive than East Lansing. Better situation than Boeheim for similar reasons and because he will be nationally respected unlike Jimbo when he gets even halfway as accomplished.

It is good and bad news for UK basketball. TN will for the first time join UK as a top 10 program. That means that the SEC will be elevated, and UK will have a built in rival other than Louisville that people nationally care about watching. Calipari will never have the talent disparity he had this year when he plays UT, and I cannot wait to watch Knight et. al go against Selby and Harris and the others. I am still holding out hope that Scotty Hopson wakes up and plays like a 5 star against UK before he leaves. Meeks waited a while to show up, maybe Hopson is doing the same.

If I was a UK fan I would be worried about We$ and NCAA sanctions, and I would be REALLY worried that my coach could not win a title with by far the most NBA talent in the field.

God grants forgiveness, and some people make positive changes in their life. Other people are still active alcoholics who dip into the snow from time to time and sleep with waitresses.

Even at his lowest point when he was making attorneys jealous late night in Knoxville, Bruce never told a good man that they should quit whining about taking care of their family.

I guess we can add hypocrite to the long list of words that describe you.

I have great doubts that a switch from the style of play he used this year back to what got us bounced from the 3rd round or less the last 4 years will get Tennessee to the Final Four and a National Championship.

Why would we change styles from the one that got us the farthest Tennessee has ever been? That just seems ignorant and stubborn to me.

Pan you make awesome predictions. Love seeing the many geniuses on your thread who like other coaches more than Pearl...They will not approach his level of success.

That was some bullsh-t right there. I'm actually pissed off again, now. Kevin O'Neill over Bruce Pearl? You're out of your f-ing mind. I don't care if he beat us this year, he's a glorified felcher for the only program that would have him...

Kevin O'Neill is a divisive jerk that condescended to players, fans, media members, and especially donors during his time at UT. Any questions? I'll be glad to give specifics!

A bit of a stretch but I'm on board with it. Here's to hoping your right. I'm gonna run naked through the street when we win our 1st title.

Kush, I am with you through and through.
I agree, the talent disparity is going nowhere but down, unless selby picks UK which I highly doubt. Too bad there is no drving through the snow debacle with him to make us drool, hope and commit mass suicide over.

1. From 2001-2010 Bruce Pearl was a combined 211-84 at UWM and UT. From 2011-2020, Bruce Pearl will have a better record, eclipsing even his DII success by averaging 25 wins per season. He will remain behind Roy Williams as fastest to various milestones in victories (500, 600) among active coaches.

2. Pearl will resist the call to the NBA. He loves his East Tennessee wife, he loves his church, he loves being loved by everyone here (message board coaches not included) and he saw what happened to Pitino. He also knows that while he is a great recruiter and can motivate young men who need playing time from him to succeed, he will not have the same sway over millionaires.

3. As Pearl returns to high scoring and high pressure full court defense, Tennessee basketball will reach a higher stage of national popularity amongst gamblers and high school players than it has ever seen up to this point.

4. Tennessee will start 2010 and 2011 with top 5 recruiting classes and top 5 attendance.

5. Tennessee basketball by 2013 will have multiple NBA starters succeeding in the league, making it even easier for Bruce to recruit top talent.

6. In the coming decade, Bruce will break the 3 million mark in compensation. His boat will still never compare to Haynesworth's.

7. In years that Bruce does not go to the Sweet Sixteen and further, he will be a commentator for CBS sports for the remainder of the tournament.

8. TN will win an SEC tournament championship and an SEC championship. Within the decade we will win at least two.

9. TN will win a national title. Bruce Pearl will also get to at least 1 other Final Four.

10. TN will be seen around the U.S. as a top 10 program.

I am incredibly excited about the future of this program!

Good to have you back MHF. I certainly hope this is one prediction you get absolutely correct.

My crystal ball says that mikehamiltonfan will bump this thread in ten years if even one of these predictions comes true.

Are you guys serious?? You think 2 final fours in 10 years is alot to ask for? Do you want to be an elite level basketball program or not?

Yes a national title and another final four appearance in 10 years would be elite. Top 10 programs do not get 6 final fours in ten years they get 2. Izzo has been on an amazing streak but I do not want to set myself for disappointment with Pearl.

I know there are several people on here who are college students (one at a Big 10 school that SUCKs at basketball) and they continue to mock me despite having made no accurate predictions or even displaying real basketball knowledge.

BPV, Hatvol, HF and a few others display again and again deep knowledge of basketball. Sometimes they have a blind spot because of their dislike for coach Pearl, but they generally have and display knowledge.

There are several around here that see people piling on a particular poster, and join in for the fun of it. Just like people who stop by and comment on a thread or post of mine, saying something about Calimari or Kensucky, contributing absolutely nothing to the conversation. Such people are idiots and not worth the effort it takes to retort.

As for myself, I give you shat because you seem man enough to to take it. Quite frankly, its an easier way to communicate if the other person is thick skinned enough to handle it. Its never anything personal, believe it or not. Its no secret I think some of the things you say are competely out of left field. Its just easier to say it bluntly and to the point than beat around the proverbial bush.

Enough of that. On to something else...

As for you mentioning me in a group that "dislikes" Pearl, thats a false assumption. I have never said I didn't like him as a man or a coach. I simply disagree with you (and others) who sometimes maintain that the man has no flaws whatsoever. I simply point out weaknesses and potentional future issues, which apparently are not acceptable.

One thing you can't say about me is that I won't do the exact same with my own fanbase and my own coach. I will be glad to sit and talk about Calipari's defencies all day long, which quite frankly there are a few. Pearl is a good coach, and a great motivator, and great for your school. He's just not what most people want to proclaim him as (yet). Some moron placed Bruces name in a sentence with Wooden, Knight, Williams, and Izzo. Stuff like that makes me lose my verbal patience and tend to set them in their place.

Now, as to your original post.....

25 per season should be the standard and minimum for UT in the SEC over that time period. Not only should you want it, but you should expect it.

I don't see Pearl as an NBA guy myself. He can be a rockstar on campus and still make great money. I don't see him in the league.

3. As Pearl returns to high scoring and high pressure full court defense, Tennessee basketball will reach a higher stage of national popularity amongst gamblers and high school players than it has ever seen up to this point. Can't disagree with that. I don't know if it pans out in terms of better team success, but it certainly vaults the programs status up in the eyes of elite prospects looking to make a pit stop before heading to the NBA.

4. Tennessee will start 2010 and 2011 with top 5 recruiting classes and top 5 attendance. Certainly looks that way.

5. Tennessee basketball by 2013 will have multiple NBA starters succeeding in the league, making it even easier for Bruce to recruit top talent. I'm not so certain. Perhaps.

6. In the coming decade, Bruce will break the 3 million mark in compensation. His boat will still never compare to Haynesworth's. He better, or it will mean that he has drastically underachieved. I think he will break 3 million within the next 2 or 3 years. (although I don't know the length/terms of his current contract)

7. In years that Bruce does not go to the Sweet Sixteen and further, he will be a commentator for CBS sports for the remainder of the tournament. I can see him in the studio doing the halftime stuff, but not on the sideline.

8. TN will win an SEC tournament championship and an SEC championship. Within the decade we will win at least two. Thats a bet I would take.

9. TN will win a national title. Bruce Pearl will also get to at least 1 other Final Four. Not sure what you mean by 1 OTHER final four, seeing as how has not been to one. However, I do think he gets there. I can't agree with the national title as of yet.

10. TN will be seen around the U.S. as a top 10 program.

No really, I'm not kidding. I loathe Kentucky and the majority of their fans...
