everyone has been talkin lately about how great they are goin to be. iknow our from 4 are gonna be pretty darn good but what about the corners . I know allen will be solid but what about hefney, fellows and morley. Hefney looked awesome in the O and W game. He had an aggressive edge to him that didnt look the same as last year. but how will our corners match up against better recievers and qb's. and our db's also?????

lbs will be amazing.
corners will be really good, especially with Allen moving back.
Safety is the biggest concern

Look for Hefney to stay at Safety, Fellows to return to Corner. Look for the DB's to be improved over last year, they will look even better due to a front 7 that will be much improved.

what about corey campbell.... i think safety is a great place for him . He had some clutch interceptions last year and he always has a nack for bein where the balls i thrown. He will come up and hit someone too. anyone know who is startin in the secondary as of now?>??

While Campbell did better in the Spring his consistancy is not there yet.

The return of Antwan Stewart should be a big help in the secondary. Stewart, Hefney and Campbell will likely be battling it out for the starting positions at safety. I think it will be Hefney and Stewart who comes out on top with Hefney at FS and Stewart at SS. Campbell will probably backup Hefney at FS. Allen will start at left corner and Fellows at right.

Barring injuries :cross: ... That's pretty much how I'm expecting things to shake down as of right now. Of course, one of those freshman (Morley) may come in and shake things up alittle in the secondary when he arrives on campus.

Other backups for the secondary that come to mind are.. Wade, Johnson, Parrish and Greene.

I also forgot Antonio Gaines. I was thinking Ellix Wilson may have moved to LB but I'm not sure. :dunno:

It really doesn't matter who plays where until the defense starts to tackle better than they did last season. I was stunned at the number of missed tackles last season. They even missed tackles against Vandy and KY. If they tackle and wrap up on the first hit then it could be a really good defense. We will have to wait and see in the fall if they have improved in this area. Just my two cents.

I don't believe that we have anything to worry about this year. I think this defensive unit has a huge chip on their shoulders. I think we will see a bunch of guys flying to the football all year long. They haven't forgotten the two scorchings that Auburn put on them last year. With the senior leadership and the big return of Kevin Simon this could be a great and fun defense to watch.

Chavis will field one helluva D unit this yr. look for Mahelona & Gaither to dominate, Simon coming back should be a big help, and having a leader like Allen in the secondary should pull that knot tight enough to choke down the opposition. Hefney will have an all SEC season I think. I feel better abouit the D side than i have in a while.

last season?

we have always been terrible at fundimental tackling. one of my biggest complaints with UT defense. that and our defense on 3rd downs.

where are all UT hard hitters like Al Wilson and Dale Carter?

Tennessee was dead last in pass dedense last year by almost 20 yards.....people forge that.

Will we improve in the area? Of course....but we will be far from amazing in that area and will still struggle some with high passing offenses at UF and maybe UGA.

Last year you had a D-Line trying to find its way, this year you have a D-Line leading the way. Pressure can make average DB's look like All Americans

The UT secondary was lost in most passing situations last season. (I. E., Kentucky, Vanderbilt, UF and Auburn twice. Just in case you have forgotten). UT will not be able to count on 6 turnovers like with Tx. A & M to win games. Even with dramatic improvement from last season it will be a stretch just to reach average. For one to think that we can win a National Title with this secondary and the schedule we have is really ridiculous. Just repeating as SEC East Champs will be a huge challenge.

I'm sure Phil, Chavis and all the defensive players haven't forgotten some of their sorry performances last season but at least it seems they are truely putting forth the effort to get better. How much better I don't know. I believe the talent on D is there but what really killed us last season was lack of experience. That shouldn't be much of an issue next season.

I have confidence the D will get it done.

gunner I am afraid your going to be disappointed. I wish that some people understood what went on last year and what has been done to correct it. But I'll not let the surprise out of the bag. Let UF and Meyer get a face full of it.

We're going be ******* great. We're gonna kick some ***. I can't ******* wait. This will be the greatest defense of all ******* time. Nobody even stands a ******* chance against us! Against the pass, we'll be the ******* best. Against the run, we'll be the ******* greatest.

Seriously, I think we're gonna be pretty dang good on defense. :good:

For all those that might be offended by curse words, I just want you to know that the * marks do not represent curse words. I just like the way they look. :good:

:good: What he said.

It's amazing what happens when the front 4 get a push and you don't have to blitz to pressure the QB.
