No quarrel with that sentiment...but not a starter. And he regressed last year iirc. Might very well be third string if and when he returns.
He had the best Spring of anyone on the DL. He played well this Fall too and was vying for starter when he was injured. If he can stay healthy, he’ll be an important contributor.

What do you think about the OL play? I remember you saying they would be a test. Where the coaches pleased?

My personal opinion is that they did very well, all things considered. UVA had injuries on the DL, but Lane seemed to hold up
at Center. I haven’t spoken to anyone inside the program postgame, but would assume they’re pleased. I was not blown away by Florida’s D line or SC’s either. We’ll need to get healthy before Bama, UK, A&M, GA who all have legit front sevens.

Always too many caveats with this guy. Hope he makes it back to provide depth, but if not...we good.

Just watching the Bammer highlights...Milroe is really gonna cause problems this year. He is jJameir Gibbs that throws the football...

Beyond the 2 sacks, Pearce was in the backfield alot disrupting plays. Harrison didn't collect any sacks or TFL but he was putting alot of pressure consistently off the edge too. Baron, as a senior, this is his time and he is off to a good start but admittedly he hasn't always been consistent. Josephs, is just as capable as Pearce so hopefully will have similar games in the near future. Thomas & Norman-Lott were great in the middle. Hobbs had a very good debut and Eason is solid but Virginia ran the ball better when they were in the game. Garland needs to contribute with Simmons out until October. Wouldn't be surprised if West got more run at DT as well as SDE. Overall, a much deeper unit than we have had in recent years, but we still need to keep the starters healthy so backups need to continue to develop.

Next week, Austin Peay is going to a formal scrimmage so the youngsters will get to see what they can do.

Big change in quality pass rushers. We have been weak in this area probably all the way back to when we had Vereen & Barnett.

QB didn’t have time to do much challenging of the DB’s.
The few times he did I saw some of the same ole stuff. Not turning and seeing the ball.
Time will tell but I ain’t getting my hopes up for a big change. Hope they prove me wrong
Reading some thoughts on a technique of playing thru the hands of the receiver vs turning to play the ball. Dont like not turning our heads and reacting. DBs look lost still.

Tyler Baron had a lot of caveats too. Garner is a great leader. I’m not writing off Simmons until Garner does. The plan for him is not to “provide depth”.

Tyler Baron has been a clear number one starter since Garner arrived…that example fell flat for you. Where did I “write him off”? There’s a rotation and if he’s available, he’ll be part of it. But your “plan” didn’t appear to be in fruition up until now…with or without the injury. He’s behind four DT’s and if anybody moves up, it’ll be Hobbs imo. Garner demands max effort all the time right now…that hasn’t been his game.
