Tennessee Fans Are Amazing

Very few Florida fans here, despite their team playing right now in their home state. That has to be a disappointment to coach Butler. Kentucky fans far outnumber them.

Some of the SC fans hung around after their team won, but the majority of them left. Right now more orange except any color except blue. But the total number of fans in the seats is very low - at start of FL vs KY game.

Pay no attention to the dance girls - I took this photo to give you some idea of the fan attendance. Really.

What kills me about some of the troll fans is the fact that yes football is the flagship sports because of revenue. But we have had a lot of mediocre to above average football seasons. Pat won 8 National Championships when no other program at UT was doing much at all. So all be it the Lady Vols. They were representing the Tennessee brand with all kinds of heart and pride. The fans turn most arenas orange in tournament environments. For a little while Pearl had the men's fans traveling decent. But for 30 years our Lady Vols fans have been there through every victory. Heart breaking loss. And now in the most difficult and disappointing season to date. They are still turning Jacksonville Orange. Instead of trolling. Show some pride for the Big Orange. Go Lady Vols and win an SEC Championship.

Let us not allow a jerk to ruin our love and pride for our Lady Vol fans. We have the best fans in the world no matter if is 100,000 or 100 in attendance.

The Lady Vols fans are just like the UK men's fans. They travel in groves. Way to represent.

No they're not. They are knowledgeable, they are pleasant to talk to, they appreciate well played games even when it doesn't involve their team, they actually attended the university, they have all their teeth and don't print up 40-0 T-shirts. :)

The only thing they have in common is that they do travel well to represent their team. Other than that they are a class above.

the same photo could be taken 15 min before a home game,,, then, 5 min after the game starts, standing room only

We're in Jacksonville, Florida not Knoxville. Everybody here presumably traveled a long way to get here. But not very many did. Here's the second half picture. No change.

... but you're sitting in the UT section, and not the sections in the photograph. TV shows a larger crowd on one side of the arena and empty endzones. Not a big turn-out, but predominantly Orange.
GLV!!

Right. More Tennessee Orange than any other color (look at Butler's jacket:whistling::birgits_giggle:). Still Vol attendance is down from previous SEC Tournaments. Wish there were more here, but that said, we still outnumber any other team here, and you could combine several teams and we still would.

GBO!

I think it may be down because we started play on Thursday instead of Fri which meant an extra day off for some people. Here at the arena an usher just remarked if it wasn't for the orange this place would be empty.

I'm OK with "crazy but amazing." :fireworks:

It takes a special degree of fandom to get this kind of passion!

I have had two arena managers stop our group and thank us for coming. They both said they were impressed with the amount of orange that showed up. I think everyone from the SEC down to the arena people were expecting a dreadful turnout. The orange faithful is coming through. I said it in another thread, the attendance has been about on par with prior years. The bigger days are Saturday and Sunday unless the Lady Vols lose. The place dries up then and they ask everyone to move down lower in the bowl to make the crowd look bigger. We are here ti fight another day. Hey State, we are coming after you next!!

I was sitting in the Kentucky section. The announced attendance for Friday was 4300+ (I don't remember the exact number). The announced attendance for Saturday was a little over 5000. I don't know what Sunday's attendance will be but without Tennessee in the finals I don't see how it's going to exceed 5000.

The SEC tournament long ago left Chattanooga as the permanent tournament location due to insufficient arena seating, insufficient hotel rooms, and insufficient parking space - and the Roundhouse arena in Chattanooga seated 13,000.

The tournament could easily go back to Chattanooga and the Roundhouse would be less than half full. Gone are the days when all-session attendance routinely exceeded 40,000. 51,000 in Nashville in 2008 is the record. Jacksonville will be fortunate to draw 25,000 - and that's with the extended day with the tournament starting on Wednesday.

Here are the previous three year's all-session attendance figures:

2015 Little Rock, Ar, 25,821
2014 Duluth, Ga, 30,467
2013 Duluth, Ga, 20,497 — the lowest since 1988 in Albany, Ga.

The fact that the crowd is predominantly orange doesn't explain why Tennessee fan attendance has declined at a rate similar to the other school's fans.

I have had the same experience here. It's a Lady Vol party.... Orange Mountain Designs here with Lady Vol gear. Even the first day orange was the house to watch LSU coached by former Lady Vols. Proudly supporting the Lady Vols!

From my perspective the Tennessee crowd is down in numbers. Still the most here of any team, but down.

Carolina is definitely up.

Miss State must be up, hard to tell since so many of the reds are similar, but they sure were loud last night. The Lady Vol fans did not dominate in volume like they have at previous tourneys.

LSU is definitely down. They always traveled well, but have lost a lot of momentum.

The other teams, even KY, just don't seem to heavily support their team.

And as soon as Carolina is not at the very top of the pack, I predict their "fan" following will collapse quickly.
