They may be close friends, but that's two HUGE offensive coordinator egos that would have to get along in sync. And Gus is an a$$hat to start off with. I can see Pruitt turning the entire offense over to Freeze within parameters of his overall offensive/defensive philosophy.
That's true. I guess it's possible, but I don't want to get my hopes up. If we get Hugh Freeze, I would expect Tennessee to compete for National Championships for the first time in 16 years.

Jim McElwain? Anyone hearing Jim McElwain? He worked with Pruitt for a few years at Bama. I’m trying to write this with a straight face and no I’m not joking.

Why would Freeze take a risk at Auburn? It's possible Gus might be gone next year. The only upside of that risk is that Auburn might put him in as HC. If he's wanting to get back to being a HC then I guess Auburn might be his best and quickest path. If he's looking to rehabilitate his image before trying a HC job again then UT is where he needs to go.
These Rags (SDS, etc) don't seem to realize that Volnation has it's PHD (from last year) on how this stuff works in the press. One guy says Freeze is clubhouse leader and other guy writes about it, and next thing you know, you've got 3-4 sites piling on. I'd take him, but believe it when I see it. I could see him going "in house" to have minimal philosophical disruption...as long as he feels he's got the right guy on staff. That being said, it's not the time to get cheap, like w/ Scott, where they figure they'll save some money...if we don't have the right guy, go get one.

I'm good with Freeze or Kliff. Leaning Freeze as he has proven he can beat Bama and is familiar with the SEC. What are the chances of the SEC commissioner allowing him to coach again? As I understand it we will have to have their blessing to hire him. Anyone know if anyone has officially tried to hire him (not just had him as a leading candidate) and tried to get him cleared? If they had I'm assuming it was a NO from the commish.

According to this Saban tried. What is confusing about the quote is it says Sankey "encouraged" Saban not to hire him, but also says Sankey is the reason Saban "couldn't" hire him. I have the confuse. Was he actually blocked or just encouraged not to and took the advice?

If Nick Saban had gotten what he wanted, Hugh Freeze would be in Tuscaloosa this week helping Alabama prepare for its annual A-Day spring game. It's what the former Ole Miss coach wanted, too. The Southeastern Conference, though, wasn't in favor of that happening.

Alabama was one of at least five SEC schools that had contact with Freeze about on-field jobs this offseason. Saban wanted to hire Freeze as a co-offensive coordinator and position coach, sources told AL.com. However, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey encouraged Alabama not to hire a man as well known for the personal shortcomings that led to his Ole Miss resignation as he is for his success as a coach.

It's the primary reason why Saban, the highest-paid and most powerful coach in college football, couldn't add Freeze to his staff this offseason, according to multiple sources familiar with the situation who provided previously unreported details about Alabama's pursuit of the former Ole Miss head coach.
