Kentucky struggles as well in Football but if you think all sports, they would be our top rival.

Alabama is probably our #2 in football and that works because we are their #2 after Auburn.

With Kentucky, we are their #1 most hated SEC opponent but they have Louisville.

Tennessee and Auburn was a big rival in the 80’s when we played them early like we did Florida in the 90’s up until now. Believe it or not Back in the 60’s the Vols-Tide was every bit as big as Bama-Auburn. To Bear Bryant Tennessee was at the top of the list.

The burn and the gumps have screwed us so many time. Auburn by themselves have our only loss in a year 4 times. I don't like them either. My oldest daughter was a cheerleader there last year. I hurt me deep in my soul to put on an Auburn hat. She has since come to her senses and will be attending the other cow farm in the sec. Mississippi State.

If you ask me, the UT's only real rival is so-called Vols fans who cherish every opportunity to badmouth and stomp our players and former players. Anytime, they aren't flawless in some way or another.

UT is everyones rival. At some point we have been rivals with every good team in the SEC plus Vandy and Kentucky. Because of the shape of the state it takes on different forms. We share borders with most of the SEC and have deep history with most of the other states we don't border. I think the Real UT thing will get some legs these next few years. But honestly, we will never be considered the archrival to any school but Vandy at least from their fan bases perspective. For Bama we will always be second fiddle to Auburn. Florida has a lot on its plate. UGA is a lot like us with no real instate rival but sharing borders with 4 SEC states.

GA has Tech but that's basically their Vandy. I think the rival depends on the decade. Before the 90's - Bama, after the division split in the 90's - FL. Not sure who it will turn out to be now. Maybe no one specific.

it really depends on the person. I would say most Bama fans look at Auburn as their biggest rival, but I’ve met several that hate us the most. UF does seem to lean FSU or UGA. UGA leans UF. Kentucky and Vandy see us as their most hated but we don’t give them a second thought.

For me, Bama will always be public enemy number one.

But I also agree with what someone mentioned earlier in the thread: I think a big determining factor is location in Tennessee. I grew up 6 miles from the Kentucky state line, and the rivalry was intense and reciprocal for all. Still is.

I have several Bama fans tell me that to which surprises me since we have been basically a cupcake game for them the last15 yrs or so. My response is I hope TN can start giving you real reasons to hate us when we start beating you again. As far as Auburn goes their memories have faded since Tuberville's 7 in row streak.

Plus many of them still believe Fulmer turned them in for the Means recruiting thing and he beat them 7 in a row to.

This is the issue. It is hard to claim them (and Georgia) as rivals when we beat them only 1 time in 10-15 years. I think that maybe changing but we will see. We have basically been their Vanderbilt.

Yep we have no true Real big time rival. Where the hate is reciprocal bar no other teams.
I mean by that, if you ask UT fans who is the most hated team or the one you want to beat the most. It would be in no particular order these 3
Bama/ Florida Georgia but if you ask them
Bama says Auburn Iron Bowl then maybe LSU west opponent
Florida says Florida State then UGA cocktail then UT
Georgia says Florida Cocktail then Auburn then UT
So IMO we have Kentucky & Vanderbilt that want to beat us more than anybody but they are almost after thoughts to us just another game. The ones that are our most coveted wins we are not their top game/win that they circle every year.
I mean as much as Spurrier stirred up the UT/UF game he said when he played UF v UGA was always the game.

Kentucky is a big deal in Basketball. I would say we are their biggest SEC rival and vice versa. (They do have Louisville outside the SEC).

I don't really base rivalries off of when 1 team is periodically bad. Vanderbilt hasn't been good in 100 years.
