Tennessee Volunteers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish among teams facing toughest 2013 schedules - College Football - ESPN

Tennessee Volunteers
Like Cal's Dykes, Butch Jones is walking into a firestorm of a first season. The Vols' first four conference dates, sprinkled from Sept. 21 until Oct. 26, are at Florida, home against Georgia and South Carolina and then at Alabama. Those all figure to be preseason top-10 teams.

And before the Volunteers even reach the SEC season, they'll have visited Oregon on Sept. 14. Does that game become a little less intimidating without Chip Kelly? Kelly isn't taking Marcus Mariota or De'Anthony Thomas with him to the Eagles, is he? And Kelly himself was once a promoted offensive coordinator; most aren't expecting much fall-off from the Ducks.

Out of curiosity:

Would Tennessee fans be in favor of moving Vandy, Kentucky, or both earlier in the schedule in order to break up the murderers row they generally get from late September to late October?

No. While it has potential to add excitement to the East race (ie 2001), I'd much rather be able to win out and make something happen in the end (ie 2007). If UT played Georgia at the end of that season, they get stomped and don't go to Atlanta.

It's not the schedule's fault. Other teams in the league have gotten better, we've regressed. Simple really.

I would be happy to switch Kentucky and Florida...and also to switch the 2nd west opponent (other than Alabama) with South Carolina...

I would be in favor of throwing Kentucky in the middle of October for sure.

Unfortunately we have the toughest schedule in the country next season. Lots of opportunity to win a big game i suppose is the nice way to view it.

i am so tired of people talking about the schedule. the schedule is what it is. and as long as we are in the SEC, it is going to be a top 15 schedule minimum. more than likely top 10

to defend people on this, it's the layout of the schedule and not the amount of teams who are on it that are of quality.

it's not a coincidence that texas a&m beat alabama the week after alabama had to go to lsu.

generally, florida's schedule is difficult, but the quality opponents are spread throughout the schedule and not grouped in a 6 week time period

it still makes sense to me, but to state it so it's easier to understand.

it's not how many good teams tennesse has to play, but the fact that the schedule is not balanced that is the problem

Exactly. One has to wonder if the Mizzou or Vandy games might have been different had UT not been coming off such a brutal month and a half.
