It's just a fact. This team can't live off of Stokes and McRae alone.

Barton's emergence is why Tennessee is a guaranteed NCAA team.

Barton has stepped up finally. CM was taking the ball out of his pgs hands too much this year. It has changed and the play has picked up. Specifically, hitting the post early and spotting up for inside out 3's has built confidence. We weren't doing that at all early in the year and were really not allowing our pgs to do much of anything. Barton had the ball in his hands more the last 3 games than all year by far, and his game management has been excellent--knowing where to go, slowing down, up tempo, ran pick and roll since we are finally sending him some.
Great to see. Maybe they sat down and figured it out as the communication earlier in the year with pgs wasn't good.

This +1. It has more to do with CCM than it does Barton

I just can't think they are guaranteed yet. Dykes said so, but he did so last year too. Too much can happen in a week. Gotta impress Friday imo

I agree. But Barton did have an open look to ice the first A&M game with about 1:30 left. Then Martin calls TO when Barton hits the game winner in the second game. If each does their job, we are easily in the dance.

Barton, moore, and Richardson on the floor together needs to be seen every game the rest of the way. That produced an 8-0 run today in under 2 minutes

Or maybe Barton just found his shot again.

Multiple times during his funk Barton got the ball put in his hands early in the game and had shown nothing during that game.

Barton has done better with game decisions and dictating pace, which in turns gives credit to both Martin and Barton, even though it was later than it should have been, but Barton has had great looks all year and for a month they didn't 'to go in.

Does he mean it was the pgs choice to give the ball up over midcourt and not ever get picks sent to him to make a play. Barton showing to be a good teammate with that comment. Add that to the pro category in the trade.

This offense is nothing compared to Barton getting 4-5 forced shots at the shot clock. We haven't run picks for him to score or drive all year until the last 3 games. We rarely ran him off 2 screens from the baseline to the wing and do 3-4 times a game recently. We had little inside out game or penetration and kicks and Barton has been able to step into more shots. Sure he missed some, but he has had the ball in his hands more and running the offense more rather than being asked to give it up everytime down. Nobody plays well like that. At least no pg.
Sounds to me like they fixed whatever communication issue there was. Now, DT needs to get the message.

Barton has had open 3's all year, especially on kick and drives and posts up. He's making them now. He was missing them earlier. He's making better PG decisions, he's getting the offense in more, but he's hitting his shots now which is making all the difference.

But don't u think that is due to having his leash loosened? For lack of better words

^That's what I see too.

Also on the broadcast, they mentioned that for the last month Barton was coming in for special morning sessions with the coaches to teach him how to be a point. I think he is just executing better.

(That said, they need to bring in DT for some morning sessions; there are some things he does out there that are concerning. He did rally a bit late in the second.)

I think it's a slight effect. Barton is getting his shoulders squared a lot better the last two weeks and that has made the biggest difference.

Could be me but it seems like he is getting more air under it too

I still don't believe he had his hands on the ball near as much earlier in the year. But yes, if you get open looks but have touched the ball twice in the last 4 possessions, you will miss more than you will if you are involved and have the ball. His making them is in direct correlation with the offense running more through him. Can't believe some of you aren't seeing that. He's not passing to the hash and going to the corner. He's dribbling down to feed the post or backs it out for a pick. Took a layup one time. Dished to the wing on another. Hit an elbow fade on one. And reversed the ball quickly for the right post feed from the other elbow on others. I didn't see those opportunities until recently.

Dykes mentioned that when Barton was benched they pulled him out of normal drills and he went thru what Dykes was calling "point guard boot camp." Hard to know what that really was since Dykes overhypes so much stuff but whatever it was, Barton certainly has responded well to it. His energy has been infectious the last few games.
