I really don't think we've had the opportunity to be tested by a real passing game yet but I've seen enough for me to comfortably say our DB's are playing significantly better than what we've been accustomed to for a good long while now.
In past years that didn't matter. Mediocre passers looked like Heisman contenders in some past years. Yes, that's hyperbole so no one go nuts thinking I'm being literal.

I know some made that connection or possibility when Inge was hired that he could be a contingency promotion to DC if Banks gets HC,

But I personally don't think he gets promoted to DC I think Heup would go get a prominent DC.

Who knows maybe Banks waits around for a few more years. But based on him interviewing the past 2 off-seasons I would think he would get more opportunities after this defense this year

impressive but we have not played any stellar offenses.. i want to see what happens at arkansas.. i think running qb will hurt us
I believe we handle Arkansas but their offense will be a better test than either Oklahoma or NCS. Their QB is fast and elusive so I know he’ll stress the D. He’s had problems with turnovers so I hope we can take advantage of that.

Just tickled no one is suggesting we go get The Chief to come back as DC. Apparently that page has finally been turned.

Regardless of who we have played up until now the defense has significantly improved overall the last couple years and will continue to get better. The one weakness that continues to hamper this defense is slant passes and I hope it gets better. As long as our line continue to disrupt the opposing QB our DB’s will be fine and really a couple of them are going to be monsters before it’s over! Exciting times to be a Vol fan. I haven’t been this excited since 2001.

Virtually the entire Big Ten sucks at everything. I will say Indiana, for traditionally who they are, is impressive for them anyway. They look better than they have in YEARS under their new HC. But outside that it’s just three teams in that conference with the Badgers sometimes being a thorn in the side. But they never recruit at a level that they’re a true threat to any elite team.

How have they not fired Martinez yet? If they would just fire him already UT would be #1 in all categories.
I'm not a Martinez fan, BUT, it seems so far, his DBs know how to turn their heads and look for the ball. We'll see if that continues or not.

One of the best stats is the 17% third down rate. Getting off the field is the most important part of the defense.

Lot of good things I have seen this year. I was amazed that the DBs were up at the line with the receivers. Makes a lot of sense, since the gameplan has somewhat been to get the ball out quick because of our DL.

Fairly certain no one here wants to relive the 3rd and Chavis days.

Inge was the DC at Washington. CJH will promote from within. Inge came here for a reason.
