Tennessee Lady Vol News

No news is good news, but I'd love to hear from Jewel publically that she's staying since she said she'd decide after the meeting yesterday.
I would too. I worry she’s not up for non-stop pressure defense and style of play that perhaps doesn’t directly correlate to pro style of play. Oc, the Tennessee platform is a huge selling point for any athlete. Guess we’ll find out soon enough!

Good point. I've heard WNBA podcasts say Jewel is a marginal prospect now but could move up with a good season next year. She's said the W is a main goal so she'll have to do what she thinks best for that goal. Hope it's the LVs!

Me too! She was such a joy to watch this season! Her trajectory was really on the rise, and I’m excited to see what she would look like if that continued.

I'm happy noone has jumped ship this week -- knock on wood! -- but I'll be nervous until after NEXT week since Kim said workouts will start then. The players may not like her anymore after next week. 😂

Hahaha yes. Have a feeling they’ll be hitting another level of conditioning we just didn’t see before.

IMO, if any player on the WNBA draft board has a solid reputation of being able to play non-stop pressure defense, she WILL garner attention from GMs. Even if a franchise's coach isn't using pressure defense constantly, it would have to (IMO) be a major feather in the cap of any player who can step up and get after it if called on to do it.

I'm thinking Kim's style of play will prepare players very well for pro ball. I often hear rookies talking about the difference in the pace and speed of the pro game, and so my hope is that all of the Lady Vols will get good at playing at a faster pace, and that at least some of them will get quicker in certain areas.

I'm pretty excited to see how it'll all pan out, but I'm honestly not going to expect them to start smoothing out until around the time the conference schedule starts.

Very very true.

If Jewel wants to make the league CKC just might be the coach for her. All she’s missing is better conditioning, improved defense and more consistent offensive production.

Her offense was much more consistent at Wake, playing alongside Rickea took shots from her for sure. In Harper’s system it was tough for her to get shots in some games.

CKC is going to green light the team, so if Jewel sticks around look for her to be stopping and popping from 3 a lot more in transition. She did that quite a bit at Wake but we rarely saw it at UT which tells me it was coached out of her last season.

Idk enough to say, so I’m glad to hear your thoughts!

Yes, it could get ugly before it gets better. I think if the team can get the pressure defense and fast break offense going they will have a lot of fun with it!

Seems supers obvious that Caldwell makes a wonderful first impression. I realize everyone was probably a little nervous about the very first meeting, and that some people (like me) sometimes smile or laugh if they're nervous, but the looks on the players' faces are nice to see. Nobody is giving off "so YOU are the lady who took Kellie's job" vibes. They all look like they're happy to see her and are feeling kinda excited for the future. 🧡
I would also attribute that to the kind of people that Kellie recruited. High-character individuals. Kellie coached her players at a lot more than just basketball and you notice the kind of women the players she has had in the program are becoming when basketball is over.
