Tennessee Lady Vols Softball 2022.

Hats off to OU, the best team this year won. It’s not easy carrying those expectations but their talent was overwhelming.

On another note does anyone have any updated info on how KP’s injury is progressing or if she is planning on coming back. I believe she graduates this summer but is eligible for another year.

Moving on with her class. I believe the ACL ended her hopes of a victory lap elsewhere as a grad transfer.

Who does the LVs definitely have coming back and who is iffy because of injury? I see 4 in the portal.

Position Players:
Olivia Underwood
Katie Taylor
Caliyah Thompson
Rylie West
Kiki Milloy
Zaida Puni
Lair Beautae
Amanda Curran
McKenna Gibson
Shakara Goodloe
Grace Keene

Pitchers:
Ashley Rogers
Ryleigh White
Nicola Simpson

Underwood and Thompson are medical questions. Rogers could decide to move on with her injury history, but as has been discussed here before has another year on her grad program and has re-signed two NIL deals. She's operating like a player who's coming back.

I hope we get 1 pitcher and a big hitter in the outfield

If we want to follow the OU model, we need big hitters everywhere. Their philosophy should change the game for the better. They recruit physically strong players who can hit…and then they teach them to hit even better. As Gasso tells them, they “are women playing against girls.”

I think the days of recruiting a team of smallish, fast, good fielders and then hoping they can hit or slap well enough are moving toward extinction. So is “small ball.” Maybe a team will have one of those players if they can manufacture ways to get on base late in a tight game, but you need mashers to drive in runs.

MLB made this same transition many years ago.

If it were me, I’d recruit size and hitting first (and pitching, of course), and then teach them to field.

What impressed me the most about the WCWS was the fact that there were numerous freshmen playing significant roles.

Did any notice that the OU batters all had the same posture when setting up in the box? They had a very open stance with the front leg (toes) on the chalk. I want to call out the batting coach for this, unless they were all copying Alo. Actually, I have noticed other players for different teams using the same "set up".

Power 5 Freshman are expected to compete once they hit campus. And the way travel ball has changed the game there is not much difference between a highly touted freshman and a senior in regards to skill of the game.
Experience, weight room and speed of the game all come with time but most are day 1 ready to play/compete.

Not sure the breakdown but Chris was conforming a good portion of the hitters to his style.

Is there a site that someone can see who is in the portal?
Most softball paid sites have them. But you can follow College Softball Portal @1SoftballPortal on twitter for a pretty good breakdown if you don't have a subscription. They are a little delayed sometimes but a good resource to keep up.

I think that is why you saw the overall numbers for some players down. You can try to change a players swing to conform to your style, but if they have swinging a certain way their whole life it is not going to change in a few months, it’s gonna take at least a year

Absolutely. And if the coach leaves, they are back to square 1.

Apparently alex storako is visiting OU right now. Hopefully we are one of her stops. There have been rumors that OU will be getting a big time transfer so I am surprised who it will be, but not surprised that a big time transfer will land there

I guess i have been asleep at the wheel. Just saw Sharonda McDonald is the new Head coach for Michigan State softball. I think they got a star in the making . JMHO

Just saw it was announced today!

Thats a good hire as she is familiar with the area working with the Bandits. Believe she have a quick turnaround and give UM fits in recruiting the regional kids.
