Tennessee lost, the world is ending, and we only dropped 4 spots in the rankings

Speaking for myself, the loss to Arkansas itself isn't reason to panic. However, there seems to be a pattern of ineffective, predictable offense in the last two games that is concerning. The line is not good, which seems to be causing Nico problems. If they can fix the issues beginning with a resounding win over Florida then all is good. If not, many of our fears may turn into reality as we could realistically lose three or four more games. Let's Go Vols!!

Was the number 4 team in the country, 14 point favorites, played like the number 100 team in the country, and lost. Iā€™m underwhelmed with the Vol offense. From the OL, QB and WRā€™s. Iā€™m underwhelmed with the coaching staffs ability to make adjustments during a game. Itā€™s my opinion the AP voters are far too generous to rank the Vols at 8. Seriously, what happened in the loss to the Hogs makes anyone truly believe the Vols are the 8th best team in the country after that abysmal performance. The offense was atrocious. Less than 100 yards in the first half.

This weekend will make or break the season. If the Vols lose this one, Vols are 15 point favorites from what I understand, then get ready for another mediocre 8-4, 7-5 season; sliding back into irrelevancy where the Vols have resided the past 16 years.

Hopefully, the loss this past weekend will light a fire under the coaching staff and offense. We shall see but Iā€™m not going to hold my breath.

Focus on one game at time. Clear and reset. Lose to Florida at home and we will go over a cliff in rankings that mean nothing at this time. Go Vols!

Why keep harping on the $8 million? So if NIL wasn't a factor would you be whining about the QB?
Yes. The fact that so many ā€œexpertsā€ labeled Nico a generational QB. Clearly, I bought into the hype. I had high hopes that Nico was everything the ā€œexpertsā€ said but according to what Iā€™ve witnessed, Nico is FAR from a generational QB. He may have the skills somewhere deep within him but he DOES NOT have the fire and competitive edge that makes the great ones great. Will he learn and be better? We can all hope but Iā€™m going to sit back and just try to stop investing so much hope into this team being anything other than mediocre at best. Personally, I think Heupelā€™s offensive magic in 2022 was a combination of Golesh and Hooker more than Heupel himself. I hope Iā€™m wrong and Heupel eventually proves that the taste of offense we witnessed in 2022 was his offense.

As Jonathan Crompton said, Heupel and this offense need to allow their testicles to drop (aside from the RBā€™s). Letā€™s hope they drop this weekend but Iā€™m not going to get my hopes up.

So you can tell 6 games into a 19-20 year old's career if they are going to be a generational or not generational talent? Wow

The O Line has gotten pushed around the last 2 games .....we made enough plays to beat Sooners... Arky not that good but seemed to be more motivated than Tenn....disappointing.....to me Nico had good game not great at Oklahoma
Arky was off on throws receivers dropping passes and penalties at critical plays....Go Vols
As I said previously, lucky as heck to get both of those turnovers back in the Okie game

There is no such thing as a generational QB. Some ā€œexpertā€ talking heads have used that term to describe Nico. What I can state as fact is that Nico is not as good as some other freshmen QBā€™s weā€™ve seen over the past 10 years.

You can look the other way all you want our offensive line is terrible and no good football team has a terrible offensive line
I've been saying it since the NC State game but was told I was seeing things...Those 2 picks that game (Nico's only 2 this year) scared me because both of them were on the Oline. I am weird if a pick is thrown when someone is hanging off you or a ball is tipped the Oline gets half the credit for it in my mind. Since NC state When Nico was in its like we played a lot more conservative. The gaudy scores kinda covered that up but people forget Nico has only played 2 full games including the bowl game. Arkansas was the only full game Nico has played. Oklahoma he was in the game but after halftime we literally didn't run our offense. UTC he was out by the half. Kent State he was done in the second quarter.

This was his play like a freshman game. I think we have worries but at the same time I have faith in our coaching staff and Nico just has a way about him. The kid is unflappable. Let him have free reign to run and the ability to throw from a pocket with 4 receivers running routes and we are good. And please please let them show us some 7-8 man boxes. Everyone send your prayers for Bru and Squirrel we are gonna need them healthy this game. Then again maybe this will be Matthews coming out party?

Maybe Thornton and McCoy (even White) need to go balls out and quit protecting themsleves. How many times did they get open for Nico against the Hogs. They were smothered all game.

Thank you. We try hard. Lets see how uppidy you are come Sunday morning.

The most remarkable thing about you and so many who crawl out from under their rocks after any loss is that you guys are very clearly hoping for losses so you can take out whatever frustrations you have in your lives on a college football team. Given the amount of venom and hyperbole, it can't possibly only be that 'your' team lost a stupid game.

Yeah, I'm sure it's been said already but the Vols really didn't look good at all. A lot of other teams around us lost too so that helped. Rankings are meh at this point with so many big matchups coming up.

Nothing wrong with a look at the bright side. However, you canā€™t just ignore the major issues that suggest more losses are coming and one could be this weekend.

Speaking of hyperbole, looks like you're projecting because you hate your life. What a reach lmao

Who gives af about the polls? Did you see that garbage we put on the field? If that doesn't concern you, I don't know what it's gonna take.

The sunshiners and the doomers have been bickering on this forum for decades now. I understand the concern despite the ranking, because we played so poorly last weekend. My thought early in the game was that this team hasnā€™t had to deal with any adversity and they were handling it poorly.

I get the sun shining because weā€™re still top 10 and the skyā€™s still the limit. The adversity is on this team now and we just gotta hope they have learned how to deal with it.

Iā€™d suggest a cautious optimism. (Donā€™t check my score prediction because I do think we get steamrolled this weekend, but Iā€™ve got to prophylactically treat myself for 31 points in the 4th quarter. Florida games nearly killed me in my teens.)
