Tennessee - Michigan

Great game but it was so Bitter Sweet. The entire time we were spanking them I was thinking what we should be doing that to Miami.

That SEC Championship game still leaves me a little bitter all these years later. That 2001 squad was the most talented team Fulmer ever had IMO.

Agreed 100%....I still don't understand how LSU won that game

Miami spanked Nebraska pretty bad. Ohio State beat Miami a year later in OT on a blow pass interference call.

The 97' or 99' team were Fulmer's most talented.

True this.

Didn't Rick Clausen say that LSU coaches were beside themselves when they kept running the same plays and our D never adjusted? That even they were she'll shocked.

I know I was. Still can't bear to think @it.

Honestly I doubt we beat Miami that year. No one was. The 01 Miami team was probably the best college football team of all time.

I was there too! I will never forget Casey throwing that slant to Witten and him out running the whole Michigan secondary. From 1985 to 2001 that was probably the most talented Tennessee team I had seen. That LSU game just baffles me. Tennessee was so used to out talenting teams that they just got out coached and played on that day. I never thought the program would start to decline after that game.

Not getting that chance is what stings the most. I will admit that I didn't think we had much of a chance at all against Florida in the swamp and Travis ended up running all over them.

That Miami squad was sick good no doubt but I think we would have given them one helluva game.

Most of all Fulmer would have gotten a 3rd SEC Title.

I always let myself rant over that game but 13 years later it still makes me bitter. I guess it always will.:banghead2:

Main reason we lost to LSU in 2001, Nick Saban.

No. We beat them earlier that year during the season. The main reason UT lost that game is because their heads got big after they beat UF. They were already carrying roses in their mouths on the plane ride back to Knoxville. They overlooked LSU and already thought they were going to the Rose Bowl to play Miami. They had no respect for LSU and they got smacked in the mouth.

Was that LSU game the one where the LSU QB was a back-up and was scrambling all over the place making play after play for LSU? TN had prepared for a pocket style QB & we knocked him out of the game & the back-up QB was running all over TN.....ya'll talking about that game? If so, we looked pretty stupid in that game which ended in a heart break for us.

Yup that was it. We knocked out their starting RB too. They beat us with backups at QB and RB

In the '01 season I went to the UF game, SEC CG vs LSU, then the Citrus Bowl vs Mich.

Talk about a high, low, high (well somewhat high).

Tennessee should of had a national championship in 2001. We were the best team and all we had to do was beat LSU. I consider that yeAr a national champ.
