So being out most of the chaminade game did affect him then...

He have been -1 or -2 yet if he'd have played the whole game he likely would've been about +20???

I see what your saying now. Yeah, by missing out on a blowout his +/- was adversely affected.

I know people felt like McBee would get lost on the bench this season but I've always been pretty high on what he brings to the table. Even when he's not hitting his shots he still has to be guarded. Having shooters means that teams can't double down on our best offensive options on the paint. I know it's just the first game but McBee is seeming like a much larger part in the scheme than even what I thought.

As CCM has told Skylar..."If you aint shooting it then you'll be on the bench with me"...cause that's what we got you on the floor for in the first place...Really looked good and confident in the first game...as competition gets better of course it will harder for him to get his shot off but I think we do a decent job creating an opening for the spot up three with Skylar...

The +/- gets to the core of what's important in basketball: outscoring your opponent. Because no stat can trace solid defense, blocking out so that a teammate can get the rebound, making the pass before the assist (hockey assist), setting good screens, etc., that's why the +/- is a great stat. Conceivably, a player could be invaluable to a team but neither score nor rebound much.

Another stat to track is points-per-FG attempt. This distinguishes volume shooters that may have a high ppg from efficient players that can get points without a lot of shots. This goes to efficiency ratings, but I do not agree with the statistical formulas for all of that.
