Excellent read and it shows how UT is on the front lines of creating the Wild West we all think is destroying college football.

We have seen the enemy and it is us.
No the NCAA standing still so long was the problem. They stood pat for years and never adjusted and never come up with a realistic resolution. They were the Wild West of cherry picking enforcers, they were the problem. They could have prevented it and certainly slowed it down but the did nothing. GBO

In the beginning of all the money being spent on recruits, as well as current players, I was naive enough to think it would be a couple hundred bucks here and there....Maybe a car or two for the player and certain family members.....

I remember one one of our players was chastised for receiving a couple of tacos because he was hungry....Hell, now the players can buy the whole restaurant and have a lot of money left over......

Yes indeed, it's a new day in college sports....

Crazy to think how much has changed about college sports. This is why Saban retired. Bama has been playing this game for years and no one has touched them. The playing field is, literally, level now.

As we've seen, the NCAA standing still was the only choice to keep the dam from breaking.

Had they started "revenue sharing," they get sued by previous athletes because they didn't get revenue sharing (as they now have been in House v NCAA.)

Had they opened a portal earlier, they'd have gotten sued (as they did) to throw it wide open and make transfers look like they do now.

Had they started NIL, it would've spun completely out of control, as it has because of lawsuits like TN filed.

WHAT move would you have had them make that wouldn't leave us EXACTLY where we are now?

The players run the show now.

Funny how the standings changed after other schools could play by the same rules as Alabama. I think all NCAA communications should be open book for the public to see.

When we turned ourselves in for the Pruitt items, I expected that we would have all of our i’s dotted and t’s crossed with the new NIL aspect. The chancellor and AD did not disappoint.

It’s funny how outspoken he is now even though all the Bama players drove Dodge chargers, amongst other things. In the words of Shakespeare, he doth protest too much. Good point, VG.

You can say we are the bad guys destroying the sport all you want, but the reality is that the NCAA, schools, and ESPN were making truckloads of cash off of a product where they didn't have to pay the talent a dime under the flag of amateurism. Yes, kids were getting paid under the table and were getting benefits like Hellcats from Nick Saban's dealership, but nothing like now. They were not being paid millions to play college ball.

I think both aspects are true.

Donde Plowman and UT are badass for putting the NCAA in its place.

The lawsuits and actions of UT and the State of TN are integral in helping to change college football into something that's very uncomfortable for most fans.

It's unfortunate, but correct, that it came to this.

The NCAA had no choice but avoid starting NIL or compensating players because they can't legally control it without Antitrust issues which UT helped point out.

The NCAA had no choice but to avoid easing transfer restrictions for players because they can't legally control it without Antitrust issues which TN joined lawsuits to help point out.

The NCAA business model isn't legally workable but the solution sucks for fans. That UT and the State of TN helped dismantle the business model is simply a fact.

We ALL do not think the portal and NIL are destroying anything. This has been the best football season we've had as fans in a long long time. Bama with 3 losses and one of them Vandy? That doesn't happen without the good ol' Wild Wild West being here.

Great article...interesting thing is, Donde requested a meeting with the NCAA president that could have ended this whole thing, and the NCAA declined the meeting, which caused us to launch our attack....

NCAA could have, once again, de-fused the situation, and instead, sealed their own fate.

Perfect example of arrogance and pride before the fall. No one is untouchable.

Well, traditionally, it's going to be even harder to see the "college" connection to college football.

With "here today, gone tomorrow" rosters of players and $20M+ payrolls, this ain't your Daddy's Vols no matter how successful they are or with Bama going back to their rightful place between legendary coaches.

The football roller coaster has been fun to watch this season and I suppose I should just "live in the moment" but this looks a lot more like pro ball instead of college every day.

The President of the NCAA is a REAL IDIOT...

Just ask Louisiana Senator John Kennedy...

And yet somehow the idiot appears to make $3-4 million annually? Life is not fair in case anyone thought it was.
