Tennessee & Nico Iamaleava are in active contract negotiations ahead of the 2025 season

I want a player who really wants to be here. Merk has stuck it out and seems ready to compete even with highly rated guys coming in. Perhaps he’s sucked this spring so that’s why Nico is playing this card. Who knows but don’t be surprised to see him pull this AGAIN in the middle of the season.

I pulled for even Guarantano to do well even when he played poorly. At this point, I don’t care about Nico askalot. If he stays he stays and if not he doesn’t. If he played poorly, his azz needs to hear it across the stadium. These guys don’t give 2 craps about the fans. Now the fans, do not give 2 craps about him. Stay and win and if you don’t, bench that azz. He’s shown NOTHING. PROVE IT ON THE FIELD ASSWIPE.

They didn’t win the national championship because they acquiesced to multiple pay raises for mediocre at best players who were already highly overpaid to begin with. They won a national championship because they weren’t wasting money on Nico Iamaleava types and paid dudes who actually were worth it.
My predictions are that, because Heupel disagrees with your assessment of Nico's capabilities, 1) UT and Nico will reach an agreement 2) Nico will perform well this year 3) You will not want your post reexamined at the end of the year.

Opposing teams saw the same level of performance that we saw. How much more can he realistically expect to get if he enters the portal?
Spyre could break down the X millions they have paid him into $ per handoff to Sampson so that other teams get a sense of how expensive his ball handoff skills are.

So our volleyball-turned-football player thinks he’s now underpaid and has the gall to ask for even more money a few months after renegotiating for a bump. He’s not proven yet that he’s even worth $2M/yr. I think he may be scared of losing out to Merklinger and looking to transfer to a West coast school. Let him go on the next flight out… never felt like he fit in the SEC culture anyway, wearing a hula skirt to a big game.

I've been in support of Nico through his up's and down's but... cut the bait. Take anyone that wants to walk away with you. STOP RENEGOTIATING WITH PEOPLE THAT HAVEN'T EARNED THEIR CURRENT NIL DEAL... MLB pays for what you did the prior year... we are getting raped by players that haven't done anything, ever.

I’d be happy if Nico actually turned out to be any good if he stayed here, but Heupel’s QB evals at UT haven’t been great. He lucked into Hendon Hooker because Joe Milton got hurt. If not for that, Heupel would probably be coaching for his job this fall.

If negotiations break down and he enters the portal, Tennessee should consider assessing him and others on the NIL dole on the way out for all the FREE coaching and development he received since arriving here. Why stop there though….room and board, meals, travel for himself and family as well as repayment of a percentage of any other past inducements for which it is deemed he has not accrued any equity based on performance. All this said, yea, he’ll probably be back when it’s all said and done. I hope so anyway
I can't read the article. I assume it's him asking for more, and not us telling him he's not worth $2M?

What's the going rate for an "elite" QB right now?
he has the highest of high ceilings but not ready to call him elite. Sampson carried the team last year almost by himself. If Nico had then you go ahead and hand him a blank check

play the game. Put in the contract that if he transfers, he has to pay a buyout and put incentives in the contract and penalties if incentives are not met. It appears he is itching to leave or this wouldn't keep coming up. This destroys culture and moral with the me, me, me attitudes!

Some are saying it's all BS. They're reworking some of his NIL contracts, which they have been working on for months. The portal threat is probably just click bait.

My thoughts? Not that anyone cares or asked.

But if this is really a second time wanting to get more money, then let him go. We cannot continue to be held hostage like this by players.

The grass is not always greener (for both sides), but man, I’m beginning to prefer the NFL. At least there is a contract and certain amount of time a player is there.

We have zero consistency in CFB now. And this will kill the sport pretty quickly. Fans will tire of the merry-go-round, HS recruiting will slow down and the portal will be what controls the roster.

If this is not about more money, then great. Sorry about the rant.
I have said for months until the NCAA gets their head out of their butts and allows pay for play enforceable contracts, this is the mess we will have.

it really is an easy fix. Pay for Play enforceable contract Term. You would not have to have collective bargaining. You only need that if you want a spending cap which is what the idiots at NCAA wants. It is what they think they are getting with the House agreement but they are just sitting themselves for more suits In future over the NIL referees.

Let him leave. Still have Merkingler and McIntyre with Faizon Brandon coming in next season. It would suck but to pull this crap at this point is ridiculous
I hate this, too, but I got news for you. Merk, GMac, and Brandon are no different. They'll all angle for more money when they hold the nuts like Nico currently does. It's where we are.

From what I hear it's Nico's Dad who is negotiating a new deal for him. Nico is happy here but Dad is apparently the one stirring up the trouble.

A gentleman told me many years ago “when it comes to money, everybody is the same religion”.

It’s proven true everyday.

My God some of y'all are such drama queens. Did you even read the article? We have this gem where he says it MAY or MAY NOT impact whether he enters the portal. Wow thanks for bringing us such in-depth details! Nowhere in the article does it say Nico is considering leaving but we have tards in here saying "ok bye!" You think his NIL deal is not going to be evaluated each year? This is likely standard for nil deals which are year to year.

Pete Nakos of On 3 reported Thursday the Volunteers and Iamaleava are undergoing "active contract negotiations ahead of the 2025 season" that may or may not "impact whether he enters the spring transfer portal."
