well...a split screen lol.

Daily Word

1. Last week of the regular season. Who needs this week the most?

Myron Medcalf: Cuonzo Martin assembled a roster that seemed capable of reaching and advancing in the NCAA tourney. Now Tennessee is on the bubble, and a road game against Auburn and home matchup against Missouri could not only decide the Vols' postseason fate but also affect Martin's tenure as frustration among supporters builds. Tennessee and Martin need this week more than anyone else.

Where has that team we saw Sat been all year????

Yeah I agree. I think THAT was what everyone(fans, media, pundits, coaches etc) expected this year. But I got to tell you this year playing like that we would have easily been top ten. And how in this world was Louisville ranked #7? I have seen them play several times and they've yet to impress me. 1-5 against the top 25....That's just not worthy of a top 25 ranking...

That's exactly why everyone is frustrated with Martin...also why Sparty started a thread with a lot of truth to it. Don't let that win blind you. I did that once. I thought after the UVA and LSU beat down the team turned the corner, but then they dropped an egg to TAMU the next game at home. This team has been the most inconsistent team I've ever watched.

Yes we beat the crap out of Vandy but if this team follows pattern then don't be surprised if they drop one to Auburn or Mizzou. Just the pattern of this team.

THey showed up in december too. beat Virginia, Cuonzo just has a hard time getting them to consistently show up

Thus the reason Cuonzo has worn out his welcome with the fans. At the same token I do not believe in bringing back Pearl if CCM is let go.

Article says it all... So much talent and effort on the floor. So little in the conzone.

I feel like even ESPN knows regardless of what happens down the stretch the guy is a major underachiever.

Same thing all year, we blow people out or we lose. No middle ground. We're what, 3-10 in games decided by 10 or less?

This is it. Except for Gainesville, this about sums it up. 5-7 pt loss or a total smack down. Almost predictable letdown after every big crushing victory, then biiig bounce back after every uninspired loss.

If Cuonzo wins these and makes SECT title game, he's gonna look like a genius that got his team to peak at the right time.

With our season M.O., I see us losing to AU, then stomping UM at home.

Sweet 16? Elite 8? Final 4? National Champs? All of those are squarely in the realm of possibility "down the stretch". Would you seriously consider him an underachiever in any of those scenarios?
Remember, the regular season pales as a distant memory once March Madness starts rolling. Nobody will remember Bruce Pearls name on the day of a possible Elite 8 birth.
Almost everyone would be pumped about a 20-10 regular season and Elite 8 appearance over the disappointment of a 26-4 regular season and 2nd round NCAA loss. It's just the nature of the way people view it.

First off if we win the NC, it would all be do to our current players. With that being said, I have honestly never seen a poorly coached team do well in playoff type events.

I will also share the way I view "it." I have woken up around this time of morning every year and prayed we could cling to an 11-12 seed?!?!?? He has failed. Our administration pays Martin good money to not only put a good product on the court but to give them a fighting chance. He has failed. I can live with losses, what I can't stand is watching these mean pour their hearts out only to be beaten because we failed to hire a competent coach. How much more time does he need to prove his strategies, coaching tactics, personnel moves, and even use of timeouts are awful.

GBO VFL and just incase you don't know where I stand.... BBB Because it is our best move at this point.

Give them a fighting chance? He has had them in position to win every game but in Gainesville. A little more execution in half of those games, you wouldn't have anything to whine about. Yes, I know he is the alpha and the omega, but come on.

Most coaches get about 5 years to prove themselves.
We chose one that was still learning on the job.

This. All the proven guys wanted nothing to do with Tenn and the NCAA cloud over our head at the time of Pearl's firing.

In no way does that excuse his performance as a coach up to this point, but it's not like we hired a proven winner.

All quotes after win at Alabama:

Martin: "The 1-3-1 I just felt like I've been looking for something to change it up for our guys. I felt like with 1-3-1 you can't make a direct pass. With a 1-3-1 there are not many direct passes. You gotta go over the top. That probably threw Alabama off. Probably last thing they were expecting"

McRae: "We really don't like the 2-3 zone a whole lot, but we have been going over the 1-3-1 a lot in practice. I think that Coach Martin was surprised at how well it worked. I think that Alabama was surprised too."

Richardson: "In the 1-3-1 we have a lot of length and we shut down easy passes and didn't let them get in the lane easily. It was nice to be able to switch it up a little bit. I think that we were so good at it tonight because we have been practicing it a lot the last couple of weeks. I think this is the first time we have started it in a game. I was surprised at how well it worked. It was a good thing for us and gave us a lot of momentum."

It has virtually vanished since then except in the Florida game where Tennessee kept Florida from scoring from the field in the seven minutes it was used. ???????

Doesn't excuse, but I have to shade him a little for bad luck. (Maymon, Hubbs)
He's shown at least some effort towards change this season.
Needs to recruit some consistent jump shooters, fewer athletes.
I'd give him his 5 if we're just going to hire another unproven.
