Tennessee Pass Rush

He's probably been involved in about 20 passing downs total and he hasn't been rushing the passer every one of those either. If the blueprint to nuetralize Pearce is to run the ball and throw screens, quick slants, and out patterns, then teams will have about as much offensive success as our last 4 opponents.

We should hope that teams continue employing that sort of offense against us. We might not allow a TD all season.
Exactly, 20 plays + he drops back on some.
I saw one time they were doubling him and he dropped back in pass protection leaving a blitzer unblocked. Ppl forget he drops back in coverage on some calls e.g. pick 6 vs Iowa last year.

Going off PFFs numbers, Pearce has only played 53 snaps all season. The rest of the D-line hasn’t had much of a chance either, everyone has been dinking and dunking.

Chattanooga - 24 pass attempts for 153 yards
NC State - 22 pass attempts for 104 yards
Kent State - 16 pass attempts for 58 yards

They’ll get their first real chance to show out this weekend!

saying he's disappeared bc he hasn’t gotten to the QB in his limited snaps is an elementary way of looking at his play
He hasn’t been that impactful this year. He is a pass rusher like Barnett, Garrett or Clowney. That’s what he is the best at. That’s what he gets all the hype for. Pearce is an absolute ELITE talent on the edge. He just hasn’t shown up yet. Hopefully he does Saturday.

dude makes plays even if he doesn't get the sack or other stats. as others have pointed out he is getting pressure or eating up blockers. Pretty much every play it seems like he is at the QB making them throw early, or step into the pocket.

I remember at least two sacks where Pearce forced the QB to move right into other pressure. they are paying so much attention to him that our other guys, like West are able to make the play.

the opposing teams very much pay attention to where #27 is on the field, sliding protection to him, running away from him, and so forth.

I also think him dropping back is going to help against screens, which is the natural counter to a good pass rush. dump it over their heads. He doesn't need to drop fully into coverage like Iowa to make a play on a ball when given a chance.

Not worried about #27 or the teams pass rush.

Yes he has. He is a game wrecker. Every single team we play this season is spending a lot of time game planning for him during their install for the week. They can’t single block him. They’re doubling him or they’re using a back to chip him or not sending a tight end out. This allows our other guys to get one on ones and make plays.

If we get ahead tomorrow and make them 1 dimensional. Look out. James is going to get home

Most of the media talk has been about Oklahoma’s D against our O. I am sure our D coaches have our D guys ready to make a major statement Saturday night. GBO

Time to make an appearance.

All this talk about James Pearce Jr. and he’s got 1 tackle on the year. 0 sacks. As a team we are tied for 96th in sacks with 4. And it’s not because our opponents were loaded with NFL offensive linemen.
This has gotta be the most braindead take of all time

Try actually watching the games instead of the statsheets and you might learn a thing or 2
