That sounds about right. I am getting old and senile so I can't remember exact dates.:birgits_giggle:

2000 is right. I was living in Memphis at the time and attended the game. Pretty miserable, probably the worst game experience I've had when we won.

unrelated but interesting trivia...

Johnson City, TN is closer to Canada than it is to Memphis. Point being, it's a heckuva long state!

Kansas is also closer to Memphis than Johnson City, TN. I would probably be going to the game if wasn't on ESPN.

The crowd will be at least 2/3rds Memphis. Ole Miss has thought that they would "dominate" the crowd the last couple of home games, our attendance has been very good, over double what it was two years ago. I have no idea where you got the 22,000 from, try doubling that, and that's against the like of conference opponents. Our fans get up for this game, I think last year when we played in Knoxville your radio station said it was one of the largest away crowds in Neyland history.

I'm afraid you are in for a big surprise my friend. If the Tigers get 50% I will be surprised. It's not a good thing to underestimate your opponent...

You must remember we've waited 6 years for this game. Go out to the stadium tonight and take a look for yourself, I've done it. There are 5-10k people camping out, we're hungry for this game. Now as to the outcome and the actual on the field play, I won't make any guesses, but you can take it to the bank there will be more Tiger fans there.
It's even mathmatically impossible/implausible for UT to have more fans. We sold a record 23,000 season tickets this year, and there will be a crowd of 10-12,000 students and faculty. That's 35,000 guarunteed right there, the Liberty Bowl only holds 60,000. We'll have at least 8-10,000 single game ticket buying fans as well.
It will be about 18,000 UT fans and 42,000 Tiger fans. I'm a horrible game predicter but I would make a bet this is accurate with a 3,000 +- margin of error.
Around 20,000 Vol fans is still alot of orange.

The last "home" game we played in Memphis (2000?) had to have been close to 50/50. What a cold, nasty day. An ugly win, but a win nonetheless. No doubt that this is a hated rivalry, by any means.

I'll second that, but it was a heck of a lot better than in 96. Those Memphis fans were the rudest people I've ever encounterd in my life.

Memphis had over 34000 people for the UT-Chat game. I doubt they have few for this one. That was more than half the stadium so I think they will have more fans tomorrow.

Not really. Tiger fans are pretty loyal. Honestly, it kind of ticks me off. You mention UT here, and you can get some nasty looks. ;)

It's okay, I understand them pulling for their home team. I just can't see how any Tennesseean could pull against the Vols. :dunno: I don't know how states with two major universities manage... (see Ole Miss-Mississippi State, Auburn-Bama, Florida-Florida State).

That said, I was at the game yesterday sporting Orange. There were about 61,000 in attendance. I'd say that the game started 65-35 Memphis to UT fans. Maybe 60:40. Definitely more blue than orange.

That said, by the end of the game, their band was sitting all by itself. :dance2:
