Tennessee QB Harrison Bailey enters NCAA transfer portal

Wish him the best. I do not consider someone entering the Portal as a quitter if they are sitting on the bench and have been told they need to go somewhere else. HB wasn't recruited by CJH and CJH never came out and offered any evidence that HB wouldn't be gathering splinters the next couple years. I appreciate coaches telling the truth. I think the Portal made a HUGE change in college football as well as NIL. With all these changes, I just hope the student athletes get through it ok. I am more concerned about them than the Universities and Conferences and Leagues. They seem totally fixated on their glory and money.

Wondering what @OrangeTsar @1TheCoach1 coach1 @ftsandersvol @Carp @Kicker82 @GAVol @kdog2455 and others think now?

Honestly, I thought Bailey was better than this

He got offers from several Power 5 schools when he entered the portal. Seems he either waited too long to make a decision, or he really likes Arroyo, who developed Justin Herbert at Oregon. I'm going to guess he really wanted that GT offer, but he didn't get it. Then was left scrambling when his other offers disappeared as those schools had already moved on.

Did he really get offers or was that just forum and sports talk speculation because he entered into the portal so early.
I know 247 site had him going to GT very early on. He probably should've jumped on them when he got a team he liked early on because waiting was going to do nothing but fill the portal with competition

I've seen a few articles mention he had offers from several Power 5 schools when he hit the portal, but I don't see anything official. He was pretty silent on social media regarding his transfer to I'm sure it will be impossible to know the truth. If those reports are true, they were either schools that he didn't think would develop him well, or didn't have a clear path to starting.

"Intangibles – He is well-liked and wouldn’t be surprised if he has some other players in the portal that want to play with him, so UNLV should benefit from that. He had Iowa, Marshall, Maryland, and other Big 10, ACC, Big 12 offers as soon as he hit the portal, but now Bailey wants a true QB coach to develop and to get him ready for the next level, and not flash of a conference name, etc.

"Former four-star recruit Harrison Bailey announced Tuesday via Twitter that he is transferring to UNLV, just three months after entering the NCAA transfer portal. They reportedly picked the rebels from Arizona, Georgia Tech and Iowa, among others. "

He certainly would have been no better than 2nd or 3rd on the QB chart at Iowa or Maryland.

That first article quote sounds a little sensationalized honestly
Only way I'd wind up at UNLV playing football if I had offers from better schools would be NIL

I think he probably did have offers, but by no means was a guaranteed starter. I am sure he was going to have to compete and probably like UT he would have been a backup. Probably went to UNLV because he will start at a program that is at that level.

For 1, I think he really wanted GT since it's close to home and it's a really good school. But they were higher on Gibson. Once he committed, HB didn't have a spot there. I'm sure some of the other schools moved on as well.

Secondly, seems rather evident HB was looking for a school where he had a clear path to start. That wasn't gonna happen at Maryland or Iowa.

Of course, I could be completely wrong and UNLV could have been his best offer.
