We lost to Wyoming because Fulmer had just been fired.

Had I told you in 2004 that we would lose to Vandy in 2005, at home, would you have believed me?

If you had told me that we would be 5-6 in 2005 I would have thought you crazy.

Had I told you in 2009 that in 2010 we would lose to Ky. would you have believed me?

We did not lose to Kentucky in 2010, but regardless,
nothing about Derek Dooley surprised me

Had I told you in 1984, that in 1985 we would beat Miami in a bowl game, would you have believed me?

None of the games on a schedule are a given.

Yes, you have valid reasons as to why the outcome was what it was BUT none the less, we still lost those games and they were not predicted as losses. Fulmer was fired, Dooley was the coach and no one saw a 5 - 6 record in 2005. That is my point exactly! You can't predict the outcomes of games with certainty but I am quiet sure that we lose to Missouri again this season.

I know that Missouri is supposed to field a weaker team than they had last season but look at how many times in the past that we were stronger than Florida or Alabama but we still lost the game. I know, Fulmer was out coached etc. etc. but we still lost.

End result is 6 - 6 next regular season with a bowl victory to put us at 7 - 6 for a final record.

So, when you asked about having a better chance of beating UGA, USC or Missouri, I said that we would lose to Missouri. If you make a decision based on logic or statistics, then we would have won the Wyoming game, the Kentucky game and the Vandy game. There are upsets all of the time in sporting events and in elections.

It would be nice to start a new tradition of beating Mizzou every year. Starting with the 2014 recruiting class, one of their goals should be to never lose to Missouri.

I feel like I have said something about Mizzou for the last couple of weeks I've been on here so if Im being ridiculous, feel free to blast me. In that game last year, their talent obviously hurt us, and alot, almost all of that talent is gone. But going back, watch a youtube video of the game, their SCHEME absolutely had us beat offensively and defensively. I have high hopeS that UT will surprise me and others this year, until that happens I will claim wins on all the high school teams we play including Kentucky and Vandy, but I have a brain that is refusing to let me think Mizzou is a chalked up W on the board. Respond with comments about their scheme, or our addition of speed and talent, I know who they lost talent wise I have been told that over and over. I want to know if people think they have great coached 3* team that can play consistently above their level. Who thought before last year started they would be heading to the SECCG?

With all that being said GO VOLS!! Hoping for nice burst of talent this year and better QB play.:)

The USC game worries more than the Mizzou and Ole Miss games. The Old Ball Coach remembers last season's game and will be out to make us look like fools 90's style.

Ole Miss is projected to be a very good team and that is factoring in the fact that they play in the west. They will be a much better team than their record suggests. I'd say they could easily win the east.

I'm not sure I understand the love for Ole Miss. I think that game is winnable, I have a hard time thinking they are better than UGA/USC/UF/UM. They had a good class of recruits in 2012 but their others are just well...not that great. It will come down to our defense in this game I think. CBJ just has to get them ready for their fast paced no huddle style.

Ole Miss aside...

I see no reason why we can't beat UGA, USC and Missouri.

Missouri lost a ton of talent along the defensive line, and one of the best receivers in the league. Depth is a concern since they don't recruit consistently in a league where that's a must. They're kind of in our boat as far as depth is concerned. Obviously our depth issues are due to coaching changes. Their's are due to just being Missouri.

We always battle UGA and USC. This year we have the horses to go toe to toe. We didn't have the horses last year and still went toe to toe with both and beat USC.

As bad as Florida may be once again, that's always a toss up. It really sucks that they continue to beat us when we are both down.

UK is UK and Vandy is back to reality.

East is going to be insane.

We can and should beat Missouri in Knoxville. But that doesnt mean we will finish ahead of them in the standings.

I think we can beat UGA and or USC, I just dont think we will given that both games are on the road. The last time UT won a road SEC game against a team other than Vandy or Kentucky was in 2007 (three coaches ago). Winning on the road in the SEC is damn tough and with all our skill positions being filled with extremely young players I just dont see it getting done this year.

The good news is that if we take care of business at home in Neyland by winning all the games except Bama, we can go to a bowl game. We should be able to beat Florida and Mizzou at home. The road games all all almost certainly going to be losses. Maybe, just maybe we beat one out of UGA/USC/UM, but I doubt we even win one of those.

Until this team gets some experience into these young stud freshmen and JUCOs, I just wont predict road wins except for Vandy.

Maybe I am wrong, but I'm probably right.

Ole Miss is a lot like Tennessee in that they have a great coaching staff and they are owning recruiting within their own state. Ole Miss is a better team than what their record will ultimately be having to be in the same division as Bama/Auburn/LSU/A&M.

If the game were in Knoxville I'd give the edge to UT, but winning road games in the SEC take an especially good and more importantly experienced team. We have not done it since 2007 with the exception of Vandy and Kentucky. Vandy is basically a home game with more UT fans than Vandy fans and Kentucky just sucks no matter where they play.

We will play them right in the middle of a difficult stretch in their schedule. Not sure if that helps, I think they will see that as a must win for sure.

Let’s look at five reasons why the Tennessee football team might end its three-year bowl drought and make a postseason appearance in 2014.

Tennessee sophomore receiver Marquez North (News Sentinel photo)
Tomorrow we’ll look at five reasons the Vols might not their first postseason appearance since the 2010 Music City Bowl in Nashville, but today we’ll examine five reasons they might go bowling.
This is a more talented football team: Many things have been said about the direction of the Tennessee football program under second-year coach Butch Jones and his staff, but this is perhaps the most important and most accurate thing: The Vols become a more talented team. Scanning the field in the Spring of 2014 showed more talent than was on the field in the Spring of 2013, and there’s no reason to expect anything different when comparing this year’s upcoming preseason camp to last year’s preseason camp. Much of that talent if young, but it’s genuine talent; SEC-caliber talent. The Vols aren’t anywhere close to where they need to be to compete for championships, but they’re closer than they were last season, at least in terms of overall talent.
This is a faster football team: Between an obvious upgrade in overall recruiting and some position switches designed to manufacture more team speed from within, this is a faster football team than it was last season. Some speedier skill-position players were recruited on both sides of the ball, and some position switches were made on defense — linebackers to end, cornerbacks to safety, etc. — and the result should be a faster overall team. And that, as much as anything, has been Tennessee’s biggest problem the past couple of years. The Vols didn’t have nearly enough speed to make big plays that would have made it easier for them to overcome some of their deficiencies.
This team (probably) will have a senior quarterback: Say what you will about Justin Worley, but don’t forget that the last time he was reasonably healthy, he led the Vols to a win over then-11th-ranked South Carolina in Neyland Stadium. He’s not Peyton Manning, but he’s not bad. And he was showing clear signs of improvement toward the middle part of last season. And now he’s a senior. Assuming he holds off sophomore Joshua Dobbs for the starting spot, he’s plenty capable of surprising people and having a solid senior season. He’s the closest thing this team has to a leader on offense, and his experience could be a major plus for an offense that doesn’t have much of it at several key position.
This team has at least one All-SEC-caliber defender on all three levels of the defense: Dynamic junior Curt Maggitt is back from an ACL repair, and the former outside linebacker is spending most of his time these days at defensive end. Between him, senior middle linebacker A.J. Johnson, sophomore cornerback Cameron Sutton and rock-solid junior safety Brian Randolph, the Vols have at least one all-conference-caliber defender at all three levels of their defense. Obviously the Vols have a ton of questions to answer on both sides of the ball, including defense, but their defense does have a nice, solid nucleus to form a talented, experienced, sturdy foundation. And that should be a big plus, assuming those players stay healthy.
There are at least six winnable games on the schedule: Tennessee might not be favored to win six games this season, and the Vols’ schedule is absolutely brutal. But there certainly are at least six winnable games on that schedule. If the Vols win the four games they almost certainly will be favored to win — Utah State, Arkansas State, Tennessee-Chattanooga and Kentucky — they’d need just two more wins to become bowl-eligible. If they won at longtime, in-state rival Vanderbilt — a program undergoing major changes under a new coaching staff — then the Vols would need to win only one more game to get to six. And they do host winnable home games against Florida and Missouri in October and November. The path is not a simple one, and it’s anything but a guarantee, but getting to six wins certainly isn’t impossible.

The good news is that if we take care of business at home in Neyland by winning all the games except Bama,.

You know how Bama has a recent history of dropping a game each year they should win? Wouldn't it be wonderful for that game to be against TN this year? Very likely will not happen but puts a wide grin on my face to ponder.

There is no reason UT shouldn't go to a bowl this year. Wins over these teams would have the Vols bowling:

USU
Ark St.
UTC
Mizzou
UK
Vandy

That's not an impressive 6 wins, but it is 6 wins.

Can I get an Amen??
