Tennessee Softball 2024

What will change everything is getting our best hitters going consistently. Zaida broke out today. Kiki is still hit and mostly miss. Panell showed some signs of life. Mealer in a mini slump, and yet still winning at very high level.
We'll probably never get them all going at the same time, but it'll be hard for the all to be in a slump at the same time. As long as the pitching stays consistent, we're in Great Shape!!

We are at the point in the season where some fatigue and things like that come into play for certain athletes. It’s on the staff to manage all of those things so the team can perform at the highest level possible once game time comes.

I think Peyton needs to be the series opener and closer. Let Pickens pitch the 2nd game. I’m a huge fan of Pickens but Peyton is so consistent and reliable.
I agree. Until Pickens fully gets her mojo back Payton needs to be the opener and closer. Can always bring Karyln back into that role when she's ready. Payton is so valuable to us right now.

That's basically how it is in all sports. Nobody holes officials accountable. FFS, you can't even complain about them after the game or you get fined. It's ridiculous.
But certain sports or leagues or conferences go overboard to protect them and especially the really bad ones.

I like Karlyn starting both ends of the SEC weekend schedule. She is such a hard thrower. When she has her change up working she is very hard to hit. I posted earlier about the extra effort State (allegely) put in trying to deal with her speed. Although better on Sunday, I think KP struggled to find a release point on at least one of her pitches. She was still very effective until State's Holt got a bat on a rise ball and hit it out. Unfortunately there were two on (1 HBP and an infield single).

Payton is such a joy to watch. Never flustered. She has a quick rythm that makes the game move quickly and keeps fielders engaged. What is most amazing about Payton is her ability to throw a strike when ever required.

If they both can stay healthy we will be fine.

They put so much effort into prepping for Karlyn that it really gets in their heads.

Weekly should effort to get some SEC innings out of White and Orsini. They're capable. Give them each at least 2 innings a weekend.
I like this idea, but in reality it is very dependent on the offense and their ability to score runs early and if they (orsini and white) give up a run or 2 the offense should be able to respond. I was watching an old game on youtube and one of the commentators were talking about how some teams when their aces aren’t starting they can not have the same energy or intensity and I feel like it might be like that sometimes.

Someone recently posted the players' SEC hitting stats--and it was instructive. I've noted this before: Where feasible, I'd like to see our programs publish SEC stats in addition to overall stats. Softball, baseball, and basketball all play a lot of non-conference games. Soccer plays a few as well. A lot of players perform well against weak, or relatively weak, OOC opponents and not so well against SEC foes--but it may not be apparent who's struggling in conference games because the player's overall/total stats look respectable or good. Maybe the coaches keep a separate set of SEC stats--but it would be nice if we fans could see them. Conference stats would reveal who's performing in big games and who's got to ratchet up their play in the games that count the most.
