Tennessee Softball 2025

Didn't get to see the game but from the comments it appears the starting 9 Karen and staff have finally settled on is clicking now for hitting and fielding. Pickens only having to pitch 5 innings is a plus for the rest of the series.
Probably the best 9 that produce runs and defense. Karen still has experience in the dugout she can go to. She likely will make minor changes along the way to get her bench players some PT but defensively this lineup is probably her best. Working Ella's bat into the lineup helps. Bottom line is not talent because they all are super talented. It's who is stepping up and making a difference. Now is the time! We're currently tied for 3rd (in the loss column), one game out of 2nd and two games behind current league leading Texas.

I got a question about the play at third. Two runners ended up both standing on third. I would think, irregardless of obstruction, one of them is out, and I think it would be the runner who was sent back to second. This obstruction bs is stupid and not uniformly called.

Agreed. UT fielder did not give girl going back to third a clear path to the bag, therefore obstruction and why both are safe. Do not agree with the call, but that is why it was called.

Dumbest rule in softball. Really should only be obstruction if the player is like two three feet from the base. When your 10 feet away diving back in how can you evade getting in the baseline to tag them.

Will Pickens start today or will she be in the relief role?
There's going to be 2 games today. If I were a betting person, I would say Karlyn will start game 3 but be available if needed before that. With back-to-back games, it does not matter. Sage and possibly Erin pitching in game 2. It all depends on the situation. If they need Karlyn to preserve a win, I'm sure Karen will use her for that. She has before.

Ella is 3-29 since UGA series. Which is just over .100 batting average.. the reason she is in line up is because of her HR against OK that won the game we were down in and made Karen look good. She is also in line up now for her positive attitude maybe.. but not her “bat”.

I think the way I would play it is open with Nuwer see if she could get through three maybe four then let Pickens close. First sign of big trouble here would come Pickens even if the first inning. I think we might start Sage in the first game. She would have a very shot leash for me don't know how long Karen will stay with her.

Yes exactly right, so would have been better off just letting the runner go to third. Then tag both of them. One is out. Think the one that first occupied the base is safe.
My main gripe is that even with no obstruction, two runners were gonna be on third.

Ella can hit. Seen her hit a lot but then most probably don't get to see players unless they are televised. The more you post, the more I realize you are not a contented fan.

Have to win one would love to win two. Two puts us right back in the race for first and definitely to finish in the top four.
We need a sweep. We won't continue to gain unless we win. They may pitch Newer today but there's nothing wrong with Kar's arm. She's got plenty of gas in the tank.

Ella can hit, alrighty then let the facts be told
Ella .227 Avg
Bella: 224 Avg

And you said Bella can’t hit 🤷‍♀️

That’s the best 9, have you fallen out of your rocker and hit your head. That just shows she’s playing favorites over the best 9:
Ella: 227 Avg
Amaya: 167 Avg

There’s better hitters on the bench
Dez: 361 Avg
Alannah: 333 Avg
Katie: 276 Avg
Emma: 273 Avg
Bella: 224 Avg

Hitting at the bottom of the lineup is much easier than hitting at the top of the order. You are being pitched a lot different and seeing better pitches to hit. No way if someone is hitting below .250 they should be in the lineup at this point of the season. This teams achilles heal the last couple of years has been hitting in the big games and to have better hitters on the bench than in the lineup is crazy.

Bella, Dez OB% is higher.. not always about hitting some times it is about walks, less strike outs…
Not sure what you are getting at but you are correct the bottom of the order should have a strong value of OB% so they are getting on for the top of the lineup and turning the order over. I’m not sure Karen realizes that aspect of the lineup

Thats the one thing about statistics, they don’t care if you or I watch every game with 20-20 vision or are blind.. sure everyone has good and bad at bats, but on average numbers don’t lie.

There are pluses and minuses for the bench. If you're actually watching them play, there are pinch hitting opportunities for most of the bench players plus PR opportunities. There have been a lot of solidly hit balls that unfortunately went right at someone. Those won't show up in statistics you quote. It's the coaches call and she has had a ton of experience and success at coaching so I'm going to go with her decisions. After all, she has coached the last two conference champions and sees this team every day. Also, all the players love her. She's a strong, experienced leader and your disdain for her makes no sense.
