Unless it is just money Tech makes no sense at all she would have to carry that team just like Stanford. I still find it hard to believe we are in the picture for her but would certainly gladly take her. As others have noted though our failures have come from lack of hitting in the big moments of the program. Does the Brown kid have any connection to her?

Tech is not even in this discussion, but you know that. She will end up where she was rumored over a month ago. We are just killing time at this point.

That would be the same with any team.

Players *should* want to win championships more than they care about how much money each player is getting.

I disagree.

if you are going to have successful locker room you have to be prepared to pay everyone what they are worth to you. Hence the rumors of how CJH is running his show.

Karlyn should be paid appropriately or if she was my daughter with her skills, I would be doing her a disservice to tell her not to shop her skills unless a championship is all she has ever wanted.

I figured if we are looking to pickup players to pickup players, we would be looking to pickup some speed and athleticism. Not a fan of the Brown pickup because it brings no value unless she’s cousins to Canady. Without picking up any speed this summer now I’m stuck watching Amanda run like her head is cutoff pinch running.

This is the real world of college sports now. Canady is the NPOY and is worth more than any other player in the country. If any other players have issue with her, regardless of which program she chooses, I guess they know where the door is. I don't know what to tell you.

It seems to have worked okay for OU. You don't think Keeney and Maxwell went there because of NIL? They don't seem to have an issue with team chemistry and they sure don't have an issue with winning.

Hopefully she contributes more than the last player we took from Texas (White).

Maxwell definitely got a healthy NIL to play at her childhood favorite school…which was OU. Keeney I’m sure got NIL but probably not huge amount.

And agree, you take Canady regardless of what player gets pissed.

Canady’s got my next vote for the next torch bear if that what it’s going to take. If you can pick her up it’s WCWS or bust

Unfortunately, I agree. Had we lost 5-6 players to the portal and it’s late then sure. But this move doesn’t address your roster/needs to be better. Tennessee had Maci Masters available who to me is a better overall if they wanted to add this type of player big bat with same skill set defensively.

Personally it’s a red flag if a D1 player can’t make All-State. They give those to kids who are P5 by default.

And, you'd lose your team.
You might have a valid point, IF Canady were head and shoulders better than Karlyn.
Which she is not.
Canady is excellent.
Karlyn is excellent.
We aren't comparing a 1st Team All-American, to an SEC honorable-mention.
Both are First Team All-Americans!
If you can afford one of them, you must equally (within approximate reason) afford them both.

But, with your roster, sure; buy her and be done with it. Which is what I think is gonna happen.

It wouldn’t be an issue. Pickens is being well compensated through her NIL…she’s a competitor and wants the ball but has the team first. I’ve never heard a bad thing about KP the teammate or person.

Here are a few thoughts on a July 11:

1) I think Karlyn would do back flips if we got Canady. She seems like a great teammate with no ego. Just wants to win. She’s had Ashley and Payton and then Payton so she knows how to share the load. I would say even used to it. It reduces the innings and pressure on her. Hopefully Sage can do that because I’m skeptical about Canady. You never know though. Someone said she’s still heading to OU and this may all be a smokescreen.

2) say we did get her. Her and Karlyn can’t score runs. I think we can be good but we’ve got a lot to replace including 40-45 HRs. I hope Fiedler and Brown can contribute but sure hated not getting Lassiter and Wyckoff. As others stated we need some speed. Lassiter has speed, D, and decent avg and Wyckoff good hitter that can catch. If Sophia gets hurt or slumps not sure we have a solid option. Is another player going to be converted?

3) The forum seems split on Elsa. I’ve only seen video but if she’s as good as a lot of folks say “plug and play” I would still think she would need to enroll in the fall. It would be hard to arrive in Jan and be playing a few weeks later unless she’s “ that girl” Has anyone heard her plans?

4)Lastly, college sports as we knew it are gone. The genie is out of the bottle and won’t be corked. Let’s face it, the days of a college education as compensation for top players is a thing of the past. They are essentially year to year professional free agents. I see the pros and cons. It is what it is. Some kids have always wanted to go to a particular school since youth, some want to play at the highest level and pursue a championship, some just want $$$. I saw a few weeks ago an athlete say “need cars, clothes, and condos” LOL As Bob Dylan says” The times, they are a changin’”

I know nothing on the Canady stuff but I know Karlyn would not be a problem. Teammates love her and she bleeds orange. As someone noted she has shared the spotlight with Ashley and Peyton. Last year at her lowest point a I briefly talked with her mother. She was clear Karlyn loved being a Ladyvol. Plus she is not instate but might as well be being just over the mountain.

Disagree 100% at this point. The situation has changed from when her initial offer was floated on behalf of Oklahoma. I don’t think she ends up there. Texas Tech is the favorite if she’s chasing the money, it’ll be somewhere else if she wants to win.

Coaching standpoint, if a team is going to make a fast turnaround it’s a Gasso coached team. NIL speeds it up
