Tennessee Transfer Prospects List

Jessie is a great person and represent TN with class but I wonder what Holly saw basketball skill wise to offer her a scholarship?
We could say that about half the roster maybe! But who knows maybe playing time was the issue. Some of these kids might have done better with more minutes. We may never know.

None of the Hayes are good enough. I would be very disappointed if they were coming to TN. They might do ok at Vandy, but not an SEC contender.

Pretty sure Alaysia Hayes (the oldest) was pretty good for the Vols her freshman year. Would’ve been a great asset as the point this past year

Anastasia. All three are going to MSST. I can see Anastasia making first team All SEC if she's willing to pass the ball to Rickea/Jessika when she gets triple teamed.

Were still at thirteen on scholarship McCoy didn't make it better had already been determined months ago she was not returning. We can take two transfers hopefully we will take players with perimeter shooting ability.

Grad Transfers would be the way to go for Tennessee. It does not hurt your recruiting and gives you some needed experience to help stay in the game in a tough league like the SEC. The negative is it takes away potential minutes from players already on the roster. You would take the Grad transfers because some players on the roster in the past season have not shown the ability to play well enough to earn the minutes that you want filled. I think this is exactly the position we are in. The problem is not that we don't have enough players returning the problem is some of these players have been totally ineffective in helping the team to achieve wins.

If you look at our roster the major problem I see is perimeter shooting. Burrell is great and then after that we have some poor shooters and some unproven shooters. If you could depend on the poor shooters to become great then you really don't need anyone out of the portal. Does any coach really want to take that chance when there are totally proven perimeter players available in the portal that have proven themselves over a four year career.

You also have four freshmen that put up fabulous numbers in high school, but there is certainly the adjustment to this higher level. Some can get there quickly and others take some time. You really don't know how that will play out so it is definitely a gamble to depend on them. Also so much better if they don't have any added pressure to produce at a level they might not be capable of in their first season.

I have to think that any reasonable coach could see how terrible we were from the three point line and also our overall perimeter game as a team. If they take that in mind then the goal should be to get proven perimeter players out of the portal. Doing this is the far less gamble of all the options you have to make the team better. That is the only reason we need portal help. We lost a bigtime scorer need someone that can at least try to match some of her efficiency. I think we need it more on the perimeter than in the post, but there are players in the portal that you would make an exception for. We have two scholarships and we should use them on Grad transfers to try and make the team better. You would only use on non Grad players if they were top 15 players in their class the year they graduated from high school.

*If we strikeout on Portal game-changer type talent...

There are only 3/4 in the portal right now that I would even take. After those, GTs are the way to go if we are only adding depth.

Kellie might be gambling a bit. Fingers crossed it seems that the key players are all staying put (I do wish Destiny had stayed). Kellie might be putting her faith in Tess and a further improved Rae, and perhaps Marta to provide more 3 point shooting. Maybe she is putting Rennie on the Zolman "transform your body" program.

It is rolling the dice but putting her faith in the current team and incoming class could pay dividends.

Good points. Kellie knows her players and has the resources to evaluate talent. If she doesn't take anyone from the portal, it's not the end of the world. She's protecting minutes for the 4 freshmen coming in. Tough choice. I hate it because the Negas are going to spin it as a failure but Kellie knows she has to play players today for them to be go-to players in a couple more years. Player development, and yes, this includes players with a single digit in front of their name, is her plan for success.

So true we all like that shiny new object which we may not need. Player development of current players and incoming talent of freshmen may be enough we will definitely find out in a few months.

I've thought about this possibility, and it is indeed a big gamble, especially with the need so apparent. Betting on player improvement (the Jordans for example) instead of grabbing a proven 3rd Jordan (Lewis) is definitely a strong show of faith in the current roster. And they'd better come through if that's the case, because as with any major gamble, the implications will not be pretty if the gamble backfires. Especially while other SEC teams are loading up. No one would have to "spin" it as failure, we'll see clearly if it doesn't work.

Also, if she doesn't get anyone, we'll probably never know if its because she decided not to, or tried to and no one accepted her offer. Either way, if it doesn't work, it will still be hung on KJH, and arguably rightfully so, as a failed decision that held back progress.

Dream scenario is both Jordans are markedly better, especially as shooters, JH moves off ball and picks up big time scoring slack, Rae equals last off season's improvement and takes RD's role, Key matches that developmental leap, Marta/Keyan/Striplin effectively and consistently contribute in the front court, and the frosh PGs provide quality backup. Who wouldn't take that gamble?

I'm not sure it's a gamble per se. She has already shown fans that there is an effective player development program in place and I doubt anyone has hit their ceiling yet. Rae will return and provide scoring and energy. I can see Jordan improving her multi-faceted game this summer after fully healing the ailments that slowed her last season. Someone has to pick up Rennia's scoring and rebounding production. It will most likely be done by committee. KK will not be easy to replace as she did a lot of the physical work down low and we will need the Freshmen (Striplin and Puckett) along with the returners to expand the role of the 4 in ways that KK couldn't. Wynn at the wing may surprise some people. Key may have the most upside of all if she continues to develop her post skills. I'm excited about next year even though we don't go into the season with all questions answered.

The two improvements that will provide the most "bang" will be:

1. Hit those bunny's down low. The championship was decided in large because teams that could have won choked on their bunny's.

2. The PG has to improve both in shooting, ball handling and decision making. Also need quality depth at the PG position.
