Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

I don't think we'll ever know the answer to any of these questions, to be honest. I guess if you have the money spend it, no matter what. How do you judge the value of a high schooler anyway?
My question is what happens like with the Emoni Bates situation. Does he get to keep what he got from Memphis? Or how much of it does he get to keep? Supposedly he and Duren got 6 figure deals to go there.

I donā€™t think the Kasper thing has anything to do with us not being able to afford him, even if he turned us down due to a low ball NIL deal. There are inarguably other receivers higher up on our recruiting board for 2023, so they prolly didnā€™t want to break the bank on someone who isnā€™t ā€œcanā€™t missā€ this early in the game.
Bringing this back to basketball, all this to say, Spyre seems like theyā€™re doing a very good job handling UTā€™s NIL deals. From all real insiders that have been bringing this board quality info for years, they all seem very happy with the job Spyre has done and excited about the future with them at the NIL helm.

Just a word of advice. Agreeing with or getting positive encouragement from that guy is not a plus on your ledger. Long time negative troll and everybody knows it. Most pay no attention to him.
Just a hunch but I suspect the two of them are very close to each other. They may even have the same keyboard.

NIL deals canā€™t be conditioned on a playerā€™s enrollment at a particular school. Whatever he got at Memphis he keeps, and if they tried to take it back, he could just turn them in to the NCAA for rules violations.

Sorry, but I donā€™t believe folks handing out NIL money in Memphis will continue to pay someone who transfers away from there

I doubt any deal he had would have been for a multi year period. He was only ever expected to be there for a year.
Bates and Duren signed one year deals between 500-700. Bates obviously didnā€™t get any bonuses based on numbers or followers. His Roc Nation deal was always one year only, as they thought heā€™d go to the draft this year. Heā€™s going to be climbing up hill from here.

Those NIL deals are (should be) designed as 1-yr deals, similar to how the scholarships are handled. No one with any good business sense is going to commit guaranteed money across 4 years to a 17-18 year old kid with no opt-out clause should the kid transfer.

At the same time, they'd be smart to include language that requires the player to make X number of appearances at a locale in the vicinity of the university. In Memphis, FedEx would be smart to have made part of their agreement with Bates that he make a weekly/monthly appearance at FedEx headquarters in order to force his hand to maintain local ties for the one year.

Just to clarify, Bates can't go to the draft this year. He's too young. But, yes, there wasn't a concrete plan for him to stay 2 years. I think Memphis knew that his status would be re-evaluated after one year.

True. According to dad he was going to the G league after one year. I canā€™t see any Ignite path given his current measurables.

Doesnā€™t sound like staff is going to be able to get Reneau to visit, Indiana trending hardā€¦still feel good about Collins & Key, Phillips 50/50. Be interesting to see where/if anywhere the staff turns for a post.

50/50 on Phillips just because heā€™s keeping things so close to the chest? Seems like hard to know whatā€™s going on there

At this point he hasnā€™t taken any other visits, so most seem to think FSU or Tennessee, at least as it stands now. Thereā€™s some other back channel stuff going on there that I wonā€™t dive too much into but Tennessee is in it, and ball in their court I guess you could say.

If we donā€™t get Phillips, wouldnā€™t it make sense to go after someone like Lofton Jr. To me, that would be a home run. Are we trying there? Phillips would be a non traditional 4 man so doubt we go after a post if we get him with Uros/ON/JA already on roster.
