Tennessee Vols Man-cave

My wife and I are moving to Knoxville (as I have put in some of my previous posts) and one of our bedrooms will be a man-cave/guest room. I am definitely wanting to put a ton of Vol stuff in it and I am thinking I will paint the walls the smokey gray color (or a shade of it at least). But what else from there? Any suggestions on how to make it awesome without breaking the bank?

I would love a huge (like 5 foot wide) panoramic of Neyland Stadium but I don't want to spend a ton of money for it. And I definitely want an "I will give me all for Tennessee" sign to put over the door.

Fathead has a nice 6' iirc mural. They run 50% off sales around the holidays which drops it to $50

As far as the "I will give my all for Tennessee" sign, you can go to slap signs.com and get one there. You should also get on Fatheads.com website and look at the panoramic view of Neyland. It's pretty cool and is about 6ft by 4ft so it's about the size u want.

I got the fathead when it was half off and then I built a frame using chair rail and painted it black.

My old man cave had outdoor green carpet to simulate a field with a Tennessee Rug in the center. It was 15x12, so I painted the long walls like the field with the Power T on the 50 and all hashmarks, etc. Then I did the endzones on the short walls. Used a laser level to trace out the squares and painted one row at a time, using painters tape. No pics bc they were on my old phone and didnt transfer.


We just bought a new house and I have a 1000sqft basement to play with.

I really like what peytonberry did with the smokey gray so I'm gonna do that as a base but ill probably do some more custom painting bc I really think that adds something.

Above is stained concrete. I want to do something similiar with my floors but orange and white and give it an aged look so it's not too overwhelming. the frames are up and the HVAC/ Electricity is already done.

We are planning full remodel to be finished by February so our tax return will reimburse the cost a little. We are going to have our pool table, dart board, media room with a 52" TV and leather furniture and a whiskey barrel bar. Whiskey barrel, cut in half, with a wood bar top and shelves installed in the backside in the barrel halves.

I will post pictures when i finish.

My basement/man-cave floor is dyed and polished brown concrete with a large sawcut and dark-grouted pattern. Not sure how you will be able to get the concrete stained orange, and white would have to be painted, as I don't think there is a way to "lighten" the natural color. Honestly, if you go light, it might look like crap after a little use.

I have a good local contact in the polished concrete business with references, if you need it.

I have one of those "I will give my all.." signs leading down to my den. I also got a 500 piece puzzle of Neyland stadium, put it together, framed it and put it on the wall. It looks good.

Yea, a contact would be great. Referring to the color, I talked to a guy that said there's a burnt orange stain that he thinks would achieve the aged orange look I'm going for and with the white, im looking for a light gray almost natural.

I dont want it to be really bright by any means. Would take away from the rest of the room.

Something like the image below with a slightly stronger orange instead of amber. It will still have the appearance I'm going for. The theme my wife wants is the historic/antique Vols look. With old photos, and the old UT symbol. The Whiskey barrel bar is gonna be a big centerpiece. I saw one that was so cool and have an idea on how to make it orginial.

I would love an orange and white checkerboard rug but I can't find one anywhere to save my life. Any suggestions/help? I suppose I could get a white or orange rug and just paint it...

I have a man cave at my new house that I started. I just got every thing Tennessee I could get my hands on. Its your room so its what you like! I have a cheap hat from a flea market to a painting of smokey. It makes me happy, but one thing i can suggest is a refrigerator!

My Vol Man Cave is under construction...hope to open for The Third Saturday In October match-up on October 21, 2017. I am actually building this TN Man Cave as a Model (1 of 5) types of Tornado Safe Room Models that are being built by structurally connecting/anchoring Shipping Containers (TN Engineers Stamp on Plans). The (5) types of Safe Rooms are a Kitchenette/Break Room, Lounge/Conference Room, Rest Rooms, Storage/Supplies Room & my Vols Man Cave. These Tornado Safe Rooms are being constructed using materials/components that have been tested @ Texas Tech University to withstand an EF-5 Tornado (250 mph wind) & 15 lb "missile" (2"x4") hurled at 100 mph.

My TN Man Cave will be 20' x 33' and will have a Wet Bar, Pool Table, Poker Table, Display Cases, a T couch with a High Bar behind with T Bar Stools. The ceiling will be painted to mirror Neyland, complete with Checkerboard End Zones. There will be a 14'w x 7' h Mural of a full Checker Boarded Neyland. Floor will be Orange Stained Concrete. There will be (3) Flat Screens Samsung QLEDs (75" & 2-65"), all topped off with a Beer Froster that will chill approximately 150 beers to just above freezing (24 degrees).

Located off my office, this Safe Room/Man Cave will be open for anyone interested to see. My Sons & I own a Construction Company and, in the near future, plan to start marketing similar Man Room/Tornado Safe Rooms throughout the Country.

Skasper, you're safe and sound! That's always nice to hear, given the excitement of your adventurous road trips. :)

One thing I've always wanted (but never yet gotten) in my Go Vols room is a checkerboard border, either around the lower part of the walls, just above the baseboard, or around the top of the walls, just below the ceiling.

I saw it once, but can't remember where (it has been years), and vaguely remember being told that you can buy it as an applique kind of wall paper (Home Depot?). The whole border is only about 6" high, and the little squares are each like 1" by 1" or maybe 1.5" by 1.5". I vaguely remember the "white" squares actually being the background color of the wall (off-white, eggshell, whatever) with the orange squares being actual Pantone 151.

Anyway, it looked really neat without being too bold or ostentatious, and I've dreamed of it in my house ever since.

Maybe run with something like that in yours? :)
