Tennessee vs. North Carolina Game Thread

Woulda been a 9 point game with 2:00 to play.

Against the number 2 team in the country, I'm cool with that shot at this juncture.

Made a decent rally at the end but I'm looking forward to hopefully getting a piece of UNC in March....Then it should be closer and we would have a better chance to beat them

I have that same feeling oklavol.......They've looked decent so far with the exception of the Butler game.....Give Bruce a couple of more years and we will start winning ball games like tonight against top tier college basketball programs

That's about what I expected... Hansbrough and Wright ate the Vols alive.

But they hung with it and played hard until the end. Can't ask for much more I guess.

Thought the ejection of JaJuan was a joke, but what can ya do.

You have to look at this loss in a good way. We werent upset, Lofton found his rythem towards the end, Ramar Smith played well, Crews and Chism got their first look at an All American Center. We have to stay positive.

did anyone hear what Pearl said about ejection??

I didn't I was just wondering if anyone else did.

Tough loss, but I'll tell ya- NC is d**n good, and a game like today will go a long way toward preparing for March Madness.

BINGO!!

*On a good note*
Wayne Chism and Duke Crews both look pretty good

Crews needs to figure out how to score when he's under the basket and he needs to do it quickly. The whole team does for that matter. I've never seen so many bricks from 2 feet away..

And I'd like to add that the Jujuan ejection was one of the weaker calls I've seen in a while. Cornbread was the one who pushed off his back foot sending himself into the goalpost.

At least some of the guys were bricking it from 2 feet away... how about Childress' air ball from right under the basket? That was special...

Growing pains with a very young and raw team. Lofton needs to be taking 15-17 shots, minimum, per game. There are some teams who Crews and Chism will be able to score inside on, but UNC wasn't one of them.

Bert Bertlekamp put it best on the radio: You can teach boxing out. You can teach defense. You can't teach 6'9" and lightning fast. Hansborough is a monster player, possibly the best in the country.

On the bright side, I think UNC is probably be the best team, top to bottom, that UT sees all year, and that includes Florida and Memphis. UT hung tough in the second half, outscored them by 7, and made a competitive game of it. We'll take our lumps early, but I am VERY confident that we will be dangerous come tournament time. My concern is taking too many losses against a tough non-conference schedule and how that affects our chances of getting in to the Dance.

Almost forgot: JaJuan's ejection was absolutely absurd, and Bruce Pearl made no bones about it in his post-game comments with Bob and Bert on the radio (at risk of a fine from the SEC, I might add.)

Could have been a very different game down the stretch if JaJuan's playing instead of Passley and Tabb, who, honestly, just aren't quite ready for significant minutes yet.

It really was . . . I could see hitting him with an Intentional Foul call, but to call that flagrant was ridiculous. I think both the officials got a little caught up in the moment.

Talent wise yes...team wise...no. They still have a ways to go to be UF good. Once they trim the rotation down to 8 or so and the young guys buy into the defensive philosophy then they'll be very good.

I don't see Roy trimming UNC down to a 8-man rotation this season. I think he'll use about a 10-man rotation. However, they have a lot of freshmen and sophomores that should improve dramatically over the course of the season. They don't seem to be clicking well yet, but that's not unusual for a Carolina team early in the season.

I think its safe to say, shooting has become priority no. 1 at UT practices.

That is the one thing that absolutely KILLED us. We forced them into 24 turnovers to our 11, and outscored them in the 2nd half. Once Crews settles down and uses the glass, and once Smith settles down and learns how to play fast without forcing things, this team will be just fine.

Pearl hit it on the head: "I am disappointed, but I am much happier with my team than I was on Wednesday night."
