Sweet..OSU has set up some heavyweight competition...they come to Gville next yr with a return trip at Columbus..and also play at the Dean Dome for the ACC/B10 challenge. Cant wait to see how the "great" Oden stacks up.

I'll be at UF next year. That sounds great. I hope OSU (who did not accept me for grad school) goes 0-2 against the SEC. I wonder if they play LSU again.

Lets see, just for fun, who we have on our schedule so far:
I think the new rule is if you are in some kind of preseason tournament like we are, you can have a total of 27 additional games.

That's 16 sec games. 11 left.

So far we have Texas, Oklahoma State, Memphis, Ohio State, possibly Syracuse, and SEC/Big East Challenge (if it happens).

That would leave 5 games. I know there was talk about a possible game with Wisconsin, but I haven't heard anything about that lately. You would have to think that with all the tough games, Pearl would schedule at least 2-3 relatively easy games. That would leave room for maybe 1 or 2 more tough games. Or maybe we already have enough. I don't know. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing one more marquee team on our schedule.

If I have left off any games feel free to correct me.

Oh, this year's is going to be exceptional. Can't wait man. I'm really not sure how Oden will end up though...

Am I the only one who would like to see only 1 more tough opponent, or maybe none? I'm all about scheduling well, but our team isn't really where it needs to be to play all out of conference games against major powers. Last season we had a top 15 schedule. This year will be insane.

I've been thinking the same thing. Strength of schedule is very important, but there need to be a few patsies in there as well.

Yep, playing a tough schedule is great as long as you win a few. Having the toughest schedule and only winning 10 games won't get you much.

I think we all need to have a little bit more faith in CBP's second season as head coach. I live in southern Indiana (about 10 miles from the University of Southern Indiana) and I was able to watch CBP coach USI for a few years... and no matter the circumstances surrounding the the season (talent level, schedule, etc.), he always seemed to win more than 20 games and do well in the postseason.

Yes, our schedule will be very tough, but I've got faith CBP will be successful... as always.

Also... back to UT vs. Ohio St... the only thing that scares me about Oden is his defensive presence. I don't think he'll be a huge offensive threat... but he's a fierce defender. Good thing we've got Lofton to hang out around the arc and drain some 3 balls. :biggrin2:

an Oden/Wingate matchup could be ugly

On one of the other topics someone posted that Major Wingate was a potential second round pick in next year's NBA draft. Also, Pearl has referred to "the next level" when talking about Wingate during post game interviews, in reguards to areas he can improve.
This game could be EXTREMELY important for Major as far as a career after UT. He will either meet the challenge, and open the eyes of NBA scouts or will fail and open his own eyes, showing him what areas he needs to improve etc.

Either way this game should help Major. It'll either be a confidence boost, or it'll push him to improve.

It's going to be VERY hard for Major Wingate to be selected in a future NBA Draft. He's got a lot to prove... and I honestly don't think he can do it. He's too weak in the post... and doesn't really have any great post moves. Not to mention he needs to learn to rebound with his 6'10" self. Don't get me wrong... I would love to see Major succeed in the NBA... but he has a LONG way to go.

The Vols' game at Ohio State in January will be broadcast on CBS, and their games with Memphis (Dec. 6) and Oklahoma State (Dec. 18) will be televised on ESPN2. ESPN will pick up Tennessee's game with Texas (Dec. 23).
