Penn State is no joke. I hope our guys know that else it could get ugly. Penn State does have a mobile QB and you know our history with those.
Last year we had a mobile QB, this year not so much. Morelli has a rocket arm but we only use it to throw 5 yard out routes. Penn State will throw probably about 70% of our passes under 5 yards and the majority of those will be to the sidelines. I'm not talking a West Coast catch and run type thing, I'm talking hitches, outs, screens, etc.
Tony Hunt is our best offensive weapon at RB, being probably one of the most underrated RBs in the nation. He reminds me a lot of Larry Johnson(obviously not quite that good) in the way that he runs. He is rarely brought down on first contact and his legs continue to churn with a little bit of deceptive speed. Our offensive line has been hit or miss for the entire season. They definitely aren't the strongest bunch and Levi Brown(LT) is the best of them all. The WRs aren't really playing up to the level we all expected either, and that's partially due to play calling. Derrick Williams, our super Freshman from a year ago, hasn't been half of the weapon he was for us in 2005. Some think that's due to him getting bulkier, some attribute it to the situations we place him in, but nonetheless he isn't quite as electric as a year ago. Deon Butler is the only one we send deep and Jordan Norwood is our possession WR that does the dirty work. At the beginning of the year we played Fr. AJ Wallace on offense and he made some very explosive plays, but now he's pretty much been relegated to CB only. Don't be too nervous about our O, they won't light it up.
The defense is the strength of the team, as most people know. I'm still mystified as to why we run more of a 3-4 look after having about 4 straight years of a nationally ranked(statistics wise) top 25 defense. Even during the down years we weren't giving up points. Everyone knows about Paul Posluszny, but the other LBs are special too. Dan Connor has arguably been better than Poz this year and his other partner, Sean Lee, has been spectacular as well. I feel that they are the best LB unit in the NCAA. The DL doesn't get nearly as much pressure as a year ago, but Jay Alford is the disruptor up front, he can get in the backfield and change a play. The secondary has been hit or miss at times as well. Justin King is the best one back there, with Tony Davis being solid opposite him on the corners.
Hope that gives a little bit of a look at our team from a PSU perspective.
