I've never seen such overreactions...

A close win to UNCA and we are doomed and this team sucks...

A 20 point win tomorrow and people will be claiming this is a final 4 team.

Bottom line is we are 2-0...was it pretty, not really, but there were learning points for Martin to point out that didn't require us losing.

We look good for about 30 minutes, and then get bored and play lazy...clean up our act for 10 minutes each of the last 2 games and I bet people are singing a different tune.

Look at some of the teams just last week that struggled against lesser opponents.

Tomorrow should be a good barometer game.

I thinnk we will see a closer game overall. I hope UT can close out better than they did today.

It always takes a few games to shake off the rust. Nobody should be worried at all

WHAT I SAID WAS-------Take unca and the 11. THAT is a winner ----vegas style. Vols won by 7----which falls within the 5-8 range. Since most on here were saying take UT -11, I feel pretty good about being RIGHT and within a 4 point margin. Try to do better next time. You obviously totally missed the point here. I don't know why people are so upset.

I thought we did fine, just never delivered the knock out punch kinda like the previous game.

It's very early in the season and it takes some time for players to feel out their roles and for the coaches to decide how the rotation shapes up going forward.

Let's go beat Oklahoma State tomorrow! Go Vols!

The basketball and football forums both do this every year. I was a part of just about every game day thread from last year and it was always this way. We had a bad first half of the season and everyone proclaimed that it was Armageddon, CCM wasn't a good fit, we want Pearl back, etc. Then we turned it on in the second half and people split into groups; those who mercilessly heckled the doomsayers for overreacting to everything, and the doomsayers (who rightly deserved to be heckled) who posted a dozen times a day about how we weren't really as good as we were playing and would suck again.

Even in the game day threads themselves, this same pattern would emerge. We'd have a bad stretch in the first half and people would go ballistic like it was the end of the world and swear that they were turning off their TV. Then we'd turned it around in the second half and people would jump on the opportunity to make fun of the people who went crazy in the first half. Then they, themselves, would overreact and talk about how we were going to shock everyone when we won the SEC tournament and/or make it into the NCAA tournament, thus setting themselves up to be disappointed later on.

The fact of the matter is that last year was a success, and yet it also ended in disappointing fashion. Those two truths can co-exist. We finished the year better than most people expected and yet not as well as we could have. And so far this year, we've won two games by a narrower margin than we probably should have. But more importantly, we also won the first two games. So let's acknowledge that we want to see the team play a full game and dominate like we know they can, while also acknowledging that we're missing a big part of the puzzle due to injury and will likely play better as the season goes on, making it a little silly to prep for doomsday in the middle of November.
