Tennessee will have some rough years ahead

Speaking of special teams... how about the return game on Saturday?!?! Is Vandy just that bad on coverage, or did our guys just get that much better?

I was wondering the same thing... but I decided to pin it on Vandy being equally as awful on special teams...

sometimes guys, people (hint FULMER) need to be knocked up side their head for them to get back to the reality of things and realize that they need to start producing. This season is that knock. We can't get so down on this season that we put ourselves into a mental state where we expect everything to be awful. Let's just look at the future with some hope.

I like to be more of an optomist and think that Lucas and Jon were just getting some good blocks and making some great moves. :D

I think the Vols will have a few more of these rough seasons if our luck doesn't change, no matter how many changes are made in personel..

Right now the worst attitude on the team is fulmers. He sounds and acts like a man defeated. I would say a man burned out. I think retirement is the best possible solution for the guy myself. He has shown time and time again that he has no coaching ability this year. The thugs have been running the program since the 98 NC, and it has finally shown this year with all the problems, i am sorry guys until the clapper leaves no way it gets better.

We'll have Cut's offense running more effectively, a new WR's coach (probably TD Woods) that will actually help our WR's reach more of their potential,

Have you heard anything to indicate that TD may be coming back? :cross:

Tennessee is Tennessee. As much as he's vilified north of the TN border, Phil Fulmer will do what's necessary to stop the downturn. You guys should be thankful that you have a football coach who knows how to win.

We've got one that knows how to use his QB's, that's for sure.

Don't forget that Fulmer was dealing constantly with that jack@ss Tommy Gallion all of last year.  PF was part of 3 or 4 lawsuits all through the year plus all the public character assasination by Gallion and Co. of Fulmer, Swain, etc.

Not an excuse - more of an explanation why PF may not have been able to focus 100% on this team.

We will see what PF can do this year.  I believe he will right the ship.

With 2 mil per year his focus should not have been off his job! B)

I hate to say it, but without new blood on most of the o. coaching staff I think we see little change.

Too many UT Fans began to believe UT Football was waiting until the last quarter to get that lucky 50 yard fg, or some mystery clock occurance, or an unbelievable defensive stop. Three point victories against crappy teams really don't impress me.

We have too much talent not to coach them up!

Well, first of all I don't have tickets. I have only been lucky enough to go to a few games in my life. Living a good distance from K-Town and ticket prices are a factor. Not to mention I have a job where I never know if I'm getting called in and also I have two babies to take care of. Don't get me wrong, my only color is orange, I love the Vols, always have, always will. And if I had tickets and a chance to go, I would be there in a heartbeat. My point is that yes maybe our players didn't play to their expectations, but if the ball had bounced our way only a few more times, we could have actually had a decent season. You can try and teach players how not to fumble, but will never be able to tell that ball which player to bounce to. :dunno:

I would agree with all of that.

Quick take on the situation: Fulmer needs to go 8-4 or better next year to keep his job (including a bowl game, of course). With any kind of committment to discipline, the level of talent returning, and the considerably softer schedule next year, they will win eight games easily, probably nine games, and the heat is off.

We are not going to be very good until we find a good qb. In the past, when we have had freshman and sophomore starting QB's we have had an average season but no championships (i.e. Manning, C. Clausen).

With Ainge only completing a little more then 40% of his passes this year, I expect it wont take much from Crompton to beat him out for the starting job. I'm exepting a 8-3 or 7-4 type season with Crompton as a starter.

The real strength of this season, was the rush defense, all but one of the front seven are graduating. Our pass defense has had some bad games so that combined with a freshman QB I dont think are going to be very good next year. Getting to 7-4 will be good.

Woah now, that was all Sanders fault...remember?

We have Cutcliffe back now so everything should be perfect. Remember?

When I stand back and look at this season, I think that a lot of things had to suck for us to finish so dismally. That said, changing even one or 2 things might make us a lot better.

As far as I'm concerned, just about any change that doesn't hurt our D might be The Change that gives us a championship. Perhaps Ainge will get rid of that second personality he seems to have acquired...maybe Cut will announce his presence with less conservatism...PF could go vegetarian and get so mean the whole school quakes in his presence...I'm liking it better already.

ROLL ON SEPT. 2nd!

U-T: What do you attribute our poor play in 2005 to?

The lack of discipline has always been the underlying problem. Yes, we had a QB carousel; Yes, we had a tough schedule; Yes, Fulmer was distracted; Yes, we had bad luck. But...

All of those things did not cause the dropped passes, poor route running, lousy blocking, falsestarts and fumbles. All of those are poor execution from lack of discipline. That will not change unless Fulmer gets mean and fixes it, or unless he lets someone else fix it.

I'm hoping that Coach Fulmer will turn it around but he hasn't done it yet. I agree that he has one year to fix it or his future at UT is in jeopardy.

Go Big Orange!
