And how do you Know Graves would "jump at the chance" to come to UT?

First and foremost, we have no clue who would, or would not take the job, if it were offered. There is one reality that it appears a change is in order. Will that change happen, apparently not. Whatever Holly is selling there does not appear to be a full buy in by the players. I am in no way throwing players under the bus, however, I would like to see what a coach, like the one at North Carolina State, would do with the talent on this team.

Kelly Graves hasn’t proven anything yet, and his teams aren’t known for good defense. I think he’s a less than stellar recruiter too, but that fixes itself at a place like UT.
Y’all are kidding yourselves if you think UT isn’t a top 3 job in WCBB. We have a solid fan base, stellar recruiting draws, and are the all time winningest program in WCBB history. We have top notch facilities and new athletic dorms. We’re in a power 5 conference too, something I think will eventually end UConn.

A few things about Graves, with whose teams I am very familiar:

First, I think he's proven quite a bit, having made Gonzaga into the very sucessful program it is today and, in a very few years, resurrecting an Oregon program that had been a disaster for more than a decade. The latter includes two straight Elite 8s, with very good prospects this year (and next) as well. He is also the only WBB coach to have led two different double digit seeds into the Elite 8. Graves is by his own admission an offensive coach, but Oregon did hold Mississippi State well below its scoring average in December, and this year it's allowing slightly fewer points/game than the Lady Vols, and this with a schedule that, according to Massey, is more challenging (12th vs. 30th most difficult so far). Graves's recruiting is certainly not "stellar" by Lady Vols standards or according to recruiting rankings, but those same recruits currently score over 90 pts./game, shoot over 50% from the field, and lead Division 1 WBB in assist to turnover ratio. That's good coaching imo, but also good judgment regarding player potential (vs. recruiting ranking) and "fit." Indeed, I'd be hesitant to trade 4 of the Oregon starters (Ionescu, Cazorla, Sabally, Hebard) for their counterparts on the Lady Vols.

Having said all of this, I don't think Graves would leave Oregon for Tennessee at this point in his career. He's a west coast guy through and through and his salary will likely approach hers not too far down the road..

Very true none of us know who would or would not take the UT job if open! There are a thousand different reasons a coach moves on to another job, money-power-prestige-facilities all kind of things that UT offers or can. I do think Graves would come to UT, he is a west coast guy however he will never win a NC at Oregon and even with Nike money they cannot and do not have prestige or ability to recruit like UT can.
As far as Wes, I don’t think they would have any trouble at all getting Wes. He did great at UTC and doing great at NC State and I think it would take about an hour to get him signed and on the way to Knoxville! Wished Fulmer would get that done.

Why is everyone throwing around prominent names.... we need someone who can teach the game, can command respect from the players, know how to blend individual talent into a team, and of course know what to teach and focus on.....

Geno at UConn was known at UVA as Asst Coach but not well known in WCBB circles when tapped to be their coach

Graves has 3 Elite Eights. Zero Final Fours

Warlick Has 3 Elite Eights. Zero Final Fours
Graves has 3 Elite Eights. Zero Final Fours and this was at St. Mary's Gonzaga and Oregon!!!
Graves enters the 2018-19 season with a record of 93-47 in his time with the Ducks and a 520-249 overall head coaching mark over 25 seasons, which includes three years at Big Bend CC. He is 475-209 all-time as a Div. I head coach (Saint Mary’s, Gonzaga and Oregon). As a head coach, Graves has won 11 regular season conference championships and reached the NCAA Tournament 10 times. He boasts three career trips to the Elite Eight and two other Sweet 16 appearances. His teams have won 20-plus games in 11 of the last 12 seasons and 16 total times. Graves has coached seven All-Americans, including three-time selections Courtney Vandersloot (Gonzaga) and Jillian Alleyne (Oregon).

Hahahahahaha! Did you recycle this from 4, 3 years ago!? I swear, I see this every time disappointments rack up with the Lady Vol team...it's a delusional cycle. "Oh next year will be great, we have some top, tough recruits coming in, just wait and see"..."The new recruits are better than what we have now"..."We got a #1 coming in, she'll make it better", blah, blah, blah! Holly does not have the ability to develop players, they stagnate at Tenn. now. She can get all top 10 recruits to come into the program and the results will be the same year after year! It's not the recruits, it's Holly. Soon, those top recruits will go elsewhere because they see players growing in other programs; I don't know why they come to Tenn. now!?

Just watch, really watch Holly on the sidelines when things go downward in a game, the other team has scored back to back and the LVs keep making mistakes. She doesn't calm them down and make subs, she's too busy looking at her assistants with her hands in the air, not knowing what to do! When the team does start playing better, like they did too late in the Kentucky game, it's because the players have taken it upon themselves to go all out, not because of anything Holly has said or drawn up.

Yes!!!

Again... don't need a big name.... just need someone who can coach.... why bother to offer a big name a million a year or more... don't need that...

Graves has my admiration from bringing program from nothing to something.... that is always impressive

Schafer nor Staley will ever happen. Be realistic.

Stephanie White likely would, and many on this board believe she was a Home Run hire for Vandy.

Right about Staley and Schaffer. White would be a total f up if we got someone like her.

Like we have now! Hahaha, not sure how much worse it can get for a team that is the all time winningest women’s program in history, of course we could be like number 2 on that list it seems shortly if we keep going!

Absolutely not. It's a woman's game. Players are female and the coaches should be too. Men coaches are nor superior and only a sexist would believe a man is smarter than a woman.
Goodness do you read what you typed? . it’s also sexist to say a male can’t coach women’s basketball because he’s a guy. Heck I’m sure there are women who could coach men’s basketball if given an opportunity.

Which coach do we sign up to replace Holly?

You used the football program as an example. Here is a list of coaches hired and that failed after Fulmer was fired:
Kiffin
Dooley
Jones
Pruitt - success or failure to be determined

Has the football turnaround been successful a decade later?
Ok, let's underachieve until Holly retires.

Ok, let's underachieve until Holly retires.

I have never said Holly should remain coaching forever while the Lady Vols under achieve.

But, people wanting to fire her, and think that the magical "Top 5" coach will jump at the chance to coach at Tennessee, is ludicrous.

Until Uconn became UCONN, the Lady Vols were the Alabama of women's basketball. You can't seriously think there aren't very good coaches who wouldn't jump on that?

What is the criteria for hiring the new coach?

What achievements must that new coach possess?

What is sexist is to pick a coach based on gender. The TN players deserve the best coach available, regardless of whether that person is male or female. To get a top coach, it'll take money. And by the way, Pat Summitt did NOT pick Holly to succeed her. She was not given a chance to give input into her successor.

I hope we hire a younger coach who has shown that they can actually coach basketball, get players to perform to a high level within a team. Win, loss records can be deceiving i.e. holly warlick. We dont have to poach a high profile coach, although that might be an option, as there’s got to be good coaches we don’t discuss. For the record I thought white was a home run hire, not yet anyway. Heck I was praying we would have hired the current L.S.U. Coach when they picked holly. She’s just hanging onto her job there. So almost any hire is a crap shoot. But we see what we have currently. We’ve got to make a move and hope for the best. Are you happy with the current situation?

I would feel much different about Holly if she ever admitted she did something wrong or ever took responsibility. That is either the sign of a narcissist or someone who truly has no clue what they are doing. If she has ever taken responsibility for anything wrong I apologize, but please point me in the direction of an instance because I can’t recall one.
