Terminator: Genisys

It's definitely better than 3, but far from a gold medal in the series. It doesn't touch 1 and obvi not 2. the marketing really spoiled this movie because they gave too much away.

Saw it tonight. It's better than 3 and Salvation I thought but nothing beats the first two. I have no idea what direction they will go with the two sequels. Some of the plot lines in the movie I kinda hate but oh well (John Connor/T-800 upgrades).

7.1 on imdb is pretty decent for an action movie. Quite a bit better than T3 and Salvation.

Meh, I would bet a week after release those 2 movies had higher ratings than they do now.

It also had the worst opening box office performance of all the sequels.

That just means the past sequels ruined the climate.

So you've seen the new one? Why do you bet that? There is no way to know that.

I am pretty critical of movies, but i still find my opinions tend to be far closer to those of the masses than the critics.

I know there's no way to know it, but I also have been around IMDB for a long time; it's a fanboy paradise. Plus you're judging a week of release with movies that have been out for years; the last 2 movies have had a much longer time for people to vote on. Not to mention you said it was "quite a bit better"...Salvation has a 6.7 and T3 has a 6.4...so a bit of an exaggeration of it being so much better. That's really not that much higher. And like I said, that's based on almost 26,000 votes. T3 has almost 270,000 votes and Salvation 257,000.

As far as the past sequels "ruining" the climate, that's BS. The past 2 Jurassic Park sequels are terrible and Jurassic World is breaking records. Its climate seems just fine.

FTR, I have not seen it. I didn't say it sucks or it's good, I was merely responding to your claim about the ratings, and I didn't realize how narrow your parameters are.

7.1 is quite a bit better than 6.7, and it's a hell of a lot better than 6.4. I don't usually watch anything in the 6s because I've learned they mostly suck and I will usually watch action movies that rank in the 7s.

None of what you say means the rating will come down, or that that the other ratings came down. For all you know, they went up. You are just guessing. 26,000 votes is a statistically significant sample size.

the movie was not a very good movie, but it was entertaining and the robots/fights were pretty cool. probably would have been a lot better had the twist not been in the preview though. i also went into it with low expectations, so it was about what i expected.

as far as where it ranks, i enjoyed it much more than 3 or 4, but obviously not as much as 1 or 2.

I really think the boldened is an underappreciated value. One doesn't need to be going into a movie with a focus on how you think the acting, directing, etc is going to stack up in the next Academy Awards. If you enjoyed the time watching the movie then, in my view, it's why you're there in the first place. It's also why different movies (or music, or art, or whatever) appeal to different people. As long as YOU were entertained then...there you have it.

Except that's not the standard everyone goes in with. I can still think the acting in a movie is bad even if I know it's not going to be a movie where you expect Academy Award winning acting.

That's why I can say the acting in say the Star Wars prequels is terrible, even for a Star Wars movie.

Glad I looked at this thread before I went and saw this movie Friday. Sucks, because it's the only IMAX movie playing right now :(

I probably pay more attention to what is said on VolNation rather than various critics and ratings but this time there are too many purists on the thread.

I risked $8.00 bucks for two tickets at the cheap theatre in McKinney and came away all smiles. I thought the story line was interesting and the movie flowed. Pops' stupid smile made me laugh every time. I liked all the tie ins with the first Terminator, especially when Pops was waiting for the T800.

If you've made your mind up that this movie is sacrilegious to the Terminator godhead, just don't go.

But I think you are missing out.

I'm not that big of a movie buff (or snob) to really think about stuff like that. I just like a movie if the plot intrigues me, there are a lot of explosions, and there is at least one hot chick in it.......doesnt take much to make me happy.

Saw it last night and wasn't disappointed. Fewest cheesy lines per screen time I've seen from Ahnuld since the first Terminator. I think they've successfully reinvented the franchise or successfully ended it.

It's definitely not ended because Ahnuld signed for 3 pictures.
