There are some terms and phrases (and new traditions)that quite frankly, I'm sick and tired of hearing fans, broadcasters, etc. use in college football - we should start a grass roots movement to ban them. Here is my list:
1-He's a "posession receiver": translation - "he's slow" Ban the term
2-He's a real "cerebral QB": Comes from people who try to sound "cerebral" themselves. Smart or intelligent should suffice. Ban it
3-He's a "downhill runner": All football fields are level. Besides, when the quarter ends, does he become an "uphill runner"? Ban it
4-He's a "blue-collar, lunch pail kinda player": translation - "he's not real talented, but gives good effort". Ban it
5-He's a "scat-back": I didn't know that actually having open field moves means you "scat". Stupid term, ban it
And finally, can we all please stop holding up 4 fingers at the end of the 3rd quarter? There might be nothing more annoying than to see a stadium full of fans and players holding up 4 digits as if they're informing someone who's watching that the 4th quarter is about to begin - Thanks! Got it! Been watching football for 30 years and I never knew what happened after the 3rd quarter til that walk on deep snapper in his sparkling clean uniform held up his 4 fingers when time ran out on the 3rd. Whew! Uh,....let's ban it.
Would welcome anyone else's list. GBO!
