Terms to be banned

“Vertical,” when used to describe a deep route or downfield passing attack, is one of the most thoroughly abused terms in broadcasting. By definition, vertical implies a state of perpendicularity to the ground (i.e. “straight up”) or horizon line; think of a missile launch.

Used as a substitute for athletic ability, athleticism has become one of the most clichéd terms in broadcasting.

"Jon Gruden/Bill Cowher was in town looking at houses" - ban it

"Jon Gruden owns property in the area." - ban it

"Jon Gruden will never leave Tampa." - ban it

"TOS" - ban it

not exclusive to football but the term "money" has been picking up a lot of steam on ESPN and it needs to stop. it's stupid... as in "that kid is money!" or "that play was money!" ... dumb.

"Downhill runner" -- Ban it. No he's not, the ground is pretty flat.

It's funny that they use this term to describe guys who run "north-south," i.e., perpendicular to the yard lines. Most modern fields are elevated in the middle and slope downhill toward the sidelines for drainage purposes. So a downhill runner should probably describe a guy who high-tails it for the sideline, which is actually down hill.

Lol. Sometimes I think I'm the only person on the planet that doesn't hate Verne.

Me too Sam. I know he drives a lot of folks nuts, but I love some of his calls. "Ohh Myy!!!" ... "CJ Fayton, how do you do!" The stupid stuff is funny to me
