Terrance Jones to Kentucky

Did you read that Parrish article? He pretty much sums it all up. Jones is the one putting himself in that position.

Jones deserving it isn't my point. My point is whether or not the national media all jumps on the bandwagon and beats UW and their fans with a whip like they did when UK fans did it.

He did.

HF, you're kidding yourself if you think there aren't groups from fanbases of every big-time hoops program that wouldn't go so far as to do something like that.

Along with Popcorn, I still think you missed my point.

There is no doubt every school does it, I didn't dispute that anywhere in my posts.

That wouldn't be a good story. UW fans were the cinderalla, so to speak, in this whole story. They're the hometown team and are trying to keep their hometown kid away from the evil monster that is Calipari and UK. UK fans throwing verbal jabs at him because he chose to stay home is looked down upon in this story.

No different then when Kiffin was here. 6 Michigan State players were arrested in Dec/Jan for battery (i think) and all we heard about was how two chicks from UT showed up at a high school football game.

Yeah, it's going to be magnified. I realize this.

Are you complaining? Wishing to be in a perfect world? Would you trade having what it takes to have your programs actions magnified this way? It's how it goes.

The Cinderella hometown team would have been the Ducks if they didn't screw it up a year in advance by having an awful season that got their coach fired.

For the sake of the geographic matters in this story, I'm just going to go with Washington being the 'hometown'.

Nope. Just discussing a topic on a discussion board.

This. The kid was practically theirs for the taking.

Kinda... Yeah, his parents could have gone to more home games and such.

Like I said, when we're talking future NBA talent, a lot of the top 25 players or so in every class, I don't think it matters where they go in college. NBA talent scouts whether their target plays in Lexington or Alaska. Bledsoe getting any attention is only because of playing for UK from the start. If he wasn't good, he wouldn't get looks from the NBA. Turns out that he is, in spite of his stats, so he's getting looks. If he was good at UW, he'd be getting looks. If he was good in freaking Siberia, he'd be getting looks.

Sorta... I live literally right down the street from Jones' and Ross' high school, and have managed to have at least some sort of social interaction with most of the areas' big recruits over the last 4-ish years. Most notable was Kevin Love, that guy was an a-hole, but so is every big shot HS star. They get checked once they get to the NBA.

Anyways, going to OSU or UofO for ball players in the state is not the cool thing to do. Never mind the fact that there are a few Ducks floating the Association. Every year we produce one or two elite-level talents and every year they eliminate OSU and UofO from their choices right off the bat.

That's what I'll never be able to understand. If Jones just simply likes UK better, fine. But to say that he wants more exposure at UK is just crazy. He won't get anymore national exposure at UK then at UW. If you're talented, The media will find a way to get your name out there. Even if he decided to go play with octopodes in the deepest part of the Atlantic.

Craig Robinson seems to have OSU headed in the right direction, but I don't blame kids for not wanting to play for Ernesto Kent... It will be interesting to see how things go now that he's gone and now with that incredible new arena.

Yeah, I agree with this. My point is, (at least some) of the media has developed a theory that because of Bledsoe playing behind Wall, and Orton playing behind Cousins, that both players are even better, or have the potential to be even better than they were. Basically saying that, if either of those players were at other schools (like UW) and put up the stat lines they did this year, I'm not sure they get guaranteed 1st round status. (Especially Orton)

Now of course the flipside of that argument is that both of them would have killed it at other schools and still went in the first round.

I'm not disagreeing with your statement, I agree with it. I'm just throwing it out there that they hype that comes along with playing here (and more importantly under Cal) can be a factor in the persuasion of a where a kid goes.

Yeah, I thought to myself afterward "Nah... he's just up I-5. He knows." :)

I was at the UW game against Oregon this last year. The student section all dressed up in Mexican attire, in recognition of Ernie Kent's adventures in Mexico. It was pretty funny.
