I like Sumlin as he seems like an okay guy, but the peak of what he can do was basically Johnny Football with left over Defensive personnel from Mike Sherman in 2012. I really don't think they can ever hit the next level with that brand of football (? or flag football). I actually think he did an okay job this year based on all the players leaving, he held it together. With that said, TAM has spent well over $500m in recent years and I doubt the present situation lasts forever i.e. someone wants a return. At the end of the day, that defense is not going to get better playing flag football on offense.... as that is the offense the defense practices against.

Have you noticed that Sumlin can't win big without:

1a) Johnny Foozebah
1b) Coach Bro (Kingsbury)

Not to worry because neither is coming back and former aggy Chad Morris will be their new HC this time next year.

Hope Matt Rhule calls the HS coaches of every 2017 aggy commit bright and early in the AM tomorrow..especially the former Baylor QB commit, Kellen Mond (we have his HS coach on staff now).

Yep. He was 20-6 (10-6) with Foozeball at QB and has gone 24-15 (11-13) without him. He's actually also 2 games below .500 in conference play since 2013 (Manziel's final year).

He's never had a defense that is good enough. That's been a problem ever since 2013. They lost games in 2013 in which they scored 42 and 41 points (Alabama and Auburn respectively). Without a transcendent player at QB, they are just average.

This is a joke, right? Freeze is the only guy to beat Saban in past three years, and nearly beat him this past year. 8 of 10 UT fans would take Freeze over Butch, although NCAA could be a problem...but maybe he (Freeze) might not have to cheat (i.e. pay so many recruits) if he were at UT vice a "small potatoes" SEC school.

I guess it isnt a joke to that poster since he claims Sumlin and Jones are the worst in the SEC

I wouldn't say worst coaches, but they are fighting for doing the worst with the most right now. I still give Sumlin a slight edge in that department, but Jones was a very close second this year. Malazhn is up there too.

Malzahn has used 3 QBs and none of them are very impressive imo

Sumlin's 20 million dollar buyout expires at midnight 12/31, and he also could leave without owing A&M a dime. While always chasing Bama, there is zero excuse for them to not always be chasing the SECC given their resources and talent hotbed. And they lose a bunch of production off this team.

Won't be surprised if he gets canned

Remember when everyone around here thought Kevin Sumlin was the second coming of Nick Saban after one good season at Houston?

Wonder how many years he has on his contract making $5 million per? Buyout?

I believe he's signed thru the 2019 season. So A&M is looking at 15+ if they fired him right now.

According to SEC Nation his quirky contract has a zero buyout once Jan 1st arrived. Also, on the flip side he could leave for another job and owe A&M nothing

The zero buyout provision only applies to Sumlin leaving. He still gets paid if he gets fired.
