Texas reached out to Rick Barnes

I doubt this story is true.

Rick would NEVER take that job away from Rodney Terry. And anyone with half a brain knows that.

It would not shock me if they called Rick just to ask questions in regards to Terry. And I’m sure Rick said they should hire him (and they ultimately will)

The Brad Stevens part is the other thing that makes me think this is made up. Brad Stevens is the GM of the Boston Celtics. Do I need to elaborate more than that?

If true, it would be wishful thinking by Texas. CRB might help with their search but nothing more

Texas money and pompousness knows no bounds. UK also thinks they can lure Stevens. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if those were all calls that were made.

Fiction. Pure fiction. I guarantee they called him to do their due diligence on Rodney Terry, but there is zero chance they told him they wanted to bring him back to Texas. Texas also can’t possibly be dumb enough to think Brad Stevens would leave one of the best jobs in sports to be their head coach.

This is all just wishful thinking.

Stevens is the president of the most storied basketball franchise in NBA history, and seems pretty safe for quite a while. Unless he misses 18 hour days, 24/7 recruiting, and traveling all over the place on a very tight schedule, I think he'll keep cashing those Celtic checks until they tell him to go away.

Didn’t realize AD’s had such autonomy to fire long term coaches - thought it was much more of a collaborative decision?

He’s probably not going to have certain boosters over for dinner.

The call didn’t come from anybody at Texas that he’s got issues with.

The issues were much more with Patterson, the former AD. Patterson was trying to get rid of Barnes from the moment he landed in Austin.

As critical as I have been lately on Barnes, I highly doubt he accepts a job offer from anywhere else the rest of his career and I hope he doesn’t. I think his last chance was UCLA a few years ago but that didn’t happen. I believe he retires here and I think that’s coming sometime in the near future.

I can easily believe they made the call. They went after Saban hard a few years ago.

Not that it matters, but isn’t there a similar Barnes buyout for each side? UT would owe him the balance of his contract, but he’d owe UT a similar amount if he were to leave for another school?

And he lasted less than 2 years, there. He was gone before Rick started his first fall camp at Tennessee.

Patterson rubbed everyone the wrong way in Austin as well as rival administrators.

Patterson tried to fire Barnes after the 2014 season but did not have the equity to do so. He publicly trashed Barnes' staff in the media. He charged coaches who ate meals on campus.

You heard it here first:

The REAL target is: Bruce Pearl

Don't think it would happen with his contract, BUT......it's Texas........so.....
