Texas wanting OU game locked in at 2:30

Is the marquee game even going to be the 3:30 timeslot by then? The SEC will have moved on from CBS by that point and working along ESPN’s Saturday airing timetable.
So many unknowns. First tile to drop in this long line of dominos will be the "plan" for scheduling and when that initial 2024 schedule is published. There might be clarity on that at some level, but as a fan, it's like the jigsaw puzzle was just dumped on the table.

They'll just keep pounding their head into a brick wall, because they will not run the SEC.

They reason they ran the SWC and the Big 12 is because they were by far the biggest fish in a relatively smaller pond. That isn't the case now. They are one of many big players now, not the hegemon of the conference.

IMO, the most fascinating thing about them entering the SEC will be watching their fans, admin, etc. handle the cultural adjustment. They are used to belonging to a group where they can throw their weight around and get whatever they want, but will not be starting next year. They'll have to get in line and work within the channels of the system, and they might not handle that well. It'll be hilarious to watch if they don't.
Don’t underestimate them though they can ruin the SEC and create alot of problems and drama. I was completely against bringing them in to the SEC and we will regret it I’m afraid. Texas should be a independent like Notre Dame.

Not even in the league yet and asking for favoritism

Gonna be interesting to watch Bama, Texas and now UGA all vying to see who can swing the biggest %*( within the SEC. Texas isn't used to not getting what they want when they demand it. Same for bama. Can the SEC serve 2 or 3 masters? Lotta fun to watch I suspect.

They can try and create drama, but economics is economics. It's just math...financially, they won't be able to throw their weight around in a conference like the SEC like they could the SWC or Big 12.

I understand that.
But night games give the home teams the bigger advantage because of louder (well lubricated) fans.
I dunno, I think they’re most lubricated at the 3:30 games, getting their start around 9 or so. In my experience, they’re more likely hitting the couch by the night games.

People over 50, maybe.
People under 50, especially the students, no.

You must live in or near Knoxville. Night games are a bitch for the MT fans.

I actually live out of state. I make it up for 2-3 games a season and love the night game atmosphere. Then the ones on TV, I definately prefer nights. When 102k come to a game, there's no easy time to get in and out.

I don’t think requesting a particular time is asking for “favoritism”. A large majority of their fans are in the central time zone and are accustomed to having the game played at that time. And with all the extra revenue they’ll be bringing into the league that Tennessee will be getting a share of, I don’t think the request is that unreasonable. I

You either 1) live within a couple hours of Knox 2) break down for the hotel heist of gameday or 3) stay with friends/relatives. Leaving at 8 or 9 am & getting home around 1 or 2 am with 6-7 hours windshield time is tough for this ole guy these days.

The game has been played at 11am for several yrs due to their TV contract.

Then you wouldn’t have any problem with every school getting a guaranteed 2:30CDT game for just equity purposes. So let’s have the Vandy/Ky game at 2:30 every year, & SC/Mizzou game. I saw last year that Ky record in CBS games at 2:30 was 1-13. They’ve played 14 CBS games in over 25 yrs. Vandy has played about 6.

Last year Tx & OU were both 3-2 going into that game, that according to your position, would have been on CBS at 2:30. I don’t think either team was ranked but Tx may have. Texas won 49-0.

That same day #1 Ga played Aub, #3 Alabama played A&M & #10 Tennessee played LSU. One of those would be prime time (CBS took Ala) and the other two games would be 11am.

Will be interesting to see how that channel is utilized in the post CBS priority environment. More teams and less networks picking through the inventory could get interesting.

It’s maybe one less network. With the deal being with ESPN it’s still pretty much ESPN, ESPN2, SECNetwork, SECNetwork Alternate, and ESPNU (if needed). You just lose the marquee, no one else plays at this time 3:30 game.
