Thank God for Peyton and Pat

Just pointing out how stupid the basis for this post is. The first year without Manning was better than anything Manning ever accomplished here.

Obviously when Phil started his slide. Should have told him to look around a year or two earlier.

If ill conceived thread ideas were dollar bills, the OP would be Warren Buffet.

I thought immediately of the little old lady scene in Billy Madison and the OP using your line.

I guess we just needed to get him out of the way. The next 15 (excluding 1998)were worse than any of his three as a starter.

Except they weren't. 98, 99, 01, 03, 04, 06 and 07 were all years either better than or similar to what Peyton gave us. 9/10/11 win seasons. Had 4 bowl wins in those 7 years.

We were a pretty much consistent 9 to 11 win team under Fulmer, Manning or no Manning.

Lets stop acting like the "good ole days" were better than they actually were under Peyton. He's a great QB we all get it, but everyone here exaggerates it like his teams were the greatest in UT history. They were pretty much just par for the course for Fulmer.

If that were the case we would have won a NC in 2001. Fulmer's ticket was Bobby Scott who had a relationship with the Manning family. If that had never happened then Fulmer would have been just another coach just as he demonstrated from 2001-2008.

Too bad for you that Peyton recruited all those players to UT. There would have never been a NC in 1998 without Peyton here the previous four years.

Yes. Manning recruited every body. Picked out all the coaches too. Pretty sure he hired the AD, as well.

He stared in to the soul of Clint Stoerner and caused him to fumble, too.

Man, where would we be without Peyton?

Seems like the OP needs a history lesson on the legacy of UT football - mind you 1998 was not our ONLY NC. Champions at all positions have been coached up on Neyland's sod and gone on to NFL and HoF glory. So I am not sure what team you think you are a fan of but it doesnt seem to be the UT Vols.

He won ten games in an eleven game season. Each season you listed with the exception of 2001 were 12 games seasons and we had at least three losses and finished outside of the top fifteen. 2006 we were 9-4. We lost one home game from 95-97 and only three road games during that time. The four years from 1995-1998 are the best of the Fulmer years and will likely never be repeated. The worst the team ranked was 9th of any of those seasons. 2001 was the last time we were legitimate national title contenders.

1995 - 11-1
1996 - 10-2
1997 - 11-2 (SEC Championship)
