Thank the Good Lord we don't play Memphis this year...

Only if the state legislature gets involved and forces it.

What's the benefit to UT? Only reason it's happened recently was so they would agree to play hoops. Away nonconference games should be the likes of Pitt, Nebraska, Oregon, etc. not Memphis.

Similar benefit as playing Georgia Southern, Georgia State, or whoever it was. The risk is getting tooled. It's the latter that prevents it from happening.

Tennessee doesn't play away games at GA State or GA Southern.

There is likely a significant financial loss in Tennessee playing at Memphis instead of at Pitt, Oregon, Nebraska, etc.

Like we lucked out? As if Bama, UGA, UF and Ole Miss aren't enough?

Memphis refuses to play MTSU home & home while Tennessee played them home & home for many years. Says all you need to know about Tiger High.

At this point I would like to reference the crime in Memphis, but Knoxville has been pretty bad too this year according to the news.
With that said, I DO feel like Memphis has a “little brother” feel to them, though it might actually make for a decent game!

Do you think UT will have an AD in the interim who'll agree to play Memphis or will it remain, in the words of the illustrious Phil Fulmer, "we have no plans to do so".
We will play you when we want much like we do with Tenn Tech, Austin Peay, Chattanooga and MTSU

That’s because they are. Always have been, always will be. Always carry around that Shelby County sized chip on their shoulder and allow Tennessee to live rent free in their head . I remember that time Gameday was there, and I admit it was a great scene. The sad part was all of the signs in the crowd that were talking about UT. The biggest day in Memphis football history and they’re still focused on Knoxville.

This did not age well. Memphis beats a bad MSU team then loses to UTSA.
Yep, we won’t hear from that troll for another year. UTSA😂😂😂😂😂. But I’m sure those 20,000 fans enjoyed themselves. By the way, I haven’t paid attention. Did the Little 12 invite them yet? Guess the invitation got lost in the mail.

Yep. For the record, we should never play them in any sport. Absolutely nothing to gain. I’m guessing this is the last basketball game at least as long as Barnes is there. Only reason that series got signed is that Barnes and Tubby Smith were friends. Moneybaggs Hardaway— not so much.

Would being up 21-0 then getting beat 31-28 fall under the definition of tooled, or is that a different term?

No, it was just a good game. Memphis was less dominant during the 21-0 stretch than would appear by the score alone. Got a cheap touchdown early. Either team would have beaten LSU, UT (Tennessee and Texas), and Mississippi State (again) though on Saturday.
