Full disclosure. I am a diehard Pitt fan who came down to Knoxville last year for the Pitt-UT game. We had so much fun that we decided last year to attend a Tennessee game this year during Pitt bye week. That just happened to be this weekend. Six of us made the trip and it was epic and exceeded expectations.

I have communicated with a few of you on this site the last two months. You gave us suggestions on where to stay, invited us to tailgates and we’re just kind and generous. We hung out with several Vols fans at our hotel (Knoxville Hilton) and Clancy’s most of the weekend. We made several new friends.

I am so happy for your fan base that you won that game. We were on the field afterwards and the true joy I witnessed was something I will never forget. I have been to Super Bowls, Stanley Cup finals, final 4’s and lots of college football venues. I don’t think I have ever experienced that kind of atmosphere I saw this weekend. So thanks so much for your kindness and good luck the rest of the way. You have a great and exciting team. While my heart will always be with Pitt, I have developed a true appreciation for Vol nation and I will be returning as long as I am upright.

It's hard not to have the Vols hook set in your heart after a game like that. The game that did it for me was the comeback win against Notre Dame in 1991. It wasn't the first game I'd watched, but it was the game that made me love the Vols for the rest of my life.

For my boys, I think that game was this weekend. We live in TX so there's a lot of Longhorn, Sooner, and Aggie influence here. They've always sorta rooted for TN, not because they loved them, but because they didn't want me to be an a bad mood all weekend hahahaha! They were so hyped with me after that game, they talked about it all weekend. I believe the hook has been set.

I'm glad you have a corner of your heart for the Vols now. Welcome aboard!

Fitz1 I was hoping to see a post from you after seeing your post last week about coming down from Pittsburgh with your friends - I wanted to hear your thoughts win or lose. It’s hard to describe what we all experienced Saturday night whether there in person or jumping around in our living rooms. UT football is just something different when it’s working like it is now - I was at UT in the early 80’s and saw something similar in ’82 when we beat Bama in Bear Bryant’s last year. I’ve never forgotten that game and I don’t think anyone will ever forget what we saw Saturday night. I’m glad you got to experience it in person. Hope you make it back many more times. GBO

Our goal as Tennessee fans should be to be at least the second favorite team of every non Alabama CFB fan. And with the pent up national Bama fatigue I think we had a LOT of people all over America willing there kick over the crossbar Saturday night. Tennessee could become America’s Team. And with likable people like Heup and HH4H leading it, why the heck not?

We had a BLAST in the 'Burgh this year, as well. Thanks for posting this, and as we ALWAYS say...

THERE is NOTHING like a Saturday @neyland!

I think this thread is a good opportunity to share the people in our lives who are turning orange.

My youngest son was ambivalent to sports if he wasn't playing. He didn't really follow any team. He went with us to LSU. He wore an LSU shirt out of respect for McMom. He went to Baton Rouge supporting LSU. He came home
ALL VOL. He was at a friend's house on Saturday. He texted me as soon as we won to celebrate the victory.

Will he ever be replace UT with another school as his number 1? NO. SIR. REE!

My son called at halftime, and after the game ended from Manila, Philippines from the USS Ronald Reagan carrier phone. So glad AFN showed the game. They often don’t. He’s been in the Navy for 3 years, and hasn’t experienced our new found success, he asked “Is this real life?!” Yes, son, it is….

Of course, I had my right hand man, my 16 yr old right beside me, getting his first taste of victory over Bama.

I can’t wipe this grin off my face …..

Sounds like we are about the same age. I was born in Miami but moved to Pittsburgh area when I was 11. My father was from Pa. and his side of the family were all Penn State fans. Being a typical rebellious kid I immediately started rooting for Pitt in 1974.
Johnny Majors cemented my lifetime commitment to Pitt football with the national championship in 1976. I was heartbroken when he left for UT but that started my interest in Vols football from afar. Coming down last year for the John Majors classic was a can’t miss for me. He was one of nicest men I have ever met. It also reintroduced me to Tennessee football. My wife and I will continue to root for you guys and are looking forward to a yearly trip.
