Thanks?

thats sucks. i had been hoping for VN to have a reputation system or something of the like on here for awile. kudos to freak for trying though. maybe we can get a similar system to work on here eventually. the "thumbs up" thumbs down" system seems to work well on youtube.....but i guess it's not as likely to be abused on a site like that since it's not really a forum and the online community isn't as close.

Seemed like a good thought, VolFreak. Making such a system abuse proof may take a lot of good thinking, also.

Maybe a way to make such a system work is to have everyone who gives thanks, or reputation, or whatever is to let each thanks (or rep) cost the giver in some way. Kinda like just having to pay with cash. When you use up all your ability to give thanks (or rep) you gotta build some back up so you can be thankful again. Of course, you got to figure out some way to make that work, also.

Maybe this ability to give thanks could be marketed and sold by VN. That would make the thanks have value. :)

Just a thought.

While everyone's confessing... I don't think I helped this cause either.

Rationing the number of 'thanks' we can give to others would help (e.g. posters can 'pick 1 post; or their 'top 10posts' of the day).

Gurus and Mods get more.

And, of course, Freak, you should retain unlimited power to thank posters.

BTW, I noticed 38 thanks to another poster who simply asked me to 'go away,' so I realize I have little credibility for making such suggestions. :hi:

How about a "guy in the bed of the chevy on espn post kiffin" button. May get more use than you think!

I was gonna suggest that idea too. I know other forums like bodybuilding.com you can "rep" or "neg" someone but you have to recharge somehow. I'm not exactly sure how it works.

Things are fine as they are now, freak, and I'd understand if you don't want to invite the option to "neg" users which puts them in the red and maybe hurts their online self-esteem.

I was thinking of Freak selling rep or thanks for cold hard cash just in case he ever needed to re-upholster the cabin in the VolNation Private Jet. Or maybe re-furbish the VolNation Yacht. :)

your thread discussing Dooley's chances of success, probably pushed too many folks over the edge....:)

It took a couple of years to make a minor comeback from the Fulmer bandwagon thread.

The Dooley one didn't seem to stir up quite as much controversy, imo. So, it's probably a good thing Freak didn't experiment with the 'Thanks' button back then.

Still... you've got to love VN. It sparks renewed hope for the First Amendment. :eek:k:

I was heavily thanked, and only made about 7 or 8 posts since the thanks icon was added.......what a shame to take it away, I was really getting major support around here!! :eek:lol:

I was impressed with how effective you were with only two words (six letters).

Well-played! :good!:

yeah, I think I said "go away" to you as a joke, and I got over 50 thanks for it!! I'm sure that probably didn't help at all, when they decided to get rid of the feature.....ah well, back to +1, . and this ^ I suppose...... :eek:lol:

My sources say 20%, but if you can make it on 10%, all the better. The VolNation Private Resort in the Smokies, secluded in the hills high above Gatlinburg, needs new carpet. Or so they say. :)
