dang right. It always struck me as the retired agent retelling stories, but casting himself at his current age.Ageist!

yeah I got health problems for days, but I kicked like 50 guys butts, slept with all these beautiful women, and saved the world. Sure James, sure. drink your Metamucil and go back to crafts.
agreed, they typically start fine and then drag them until the end. the reason no one remembers George Lazenby was because he got married in it, and even though it was earlier than the others the production wasn't there to make it a "classic" film people who liked Connery would go back to.Pierce Brosnan was younger when he started. Or course, so was Connery. Roger Moore was way long in the tooth before he gave it up, but a spry young cat when he started.
Timothy Dalton was young when he started and finished his two movie trainwreck. The single movie guy nobody ever remembers the name of (George Lazenby) was about the age you might consider a "top spy."
I think Daniel Craig was the perfect age in Casino Royale. Though Skyfall was probably the most badass Bond flick since Goldeneye. (up for debate of course)
It's how they are ending rather than how they start. I think the franchise holds onto actors for too long.
